REGULATIONS UNDER THE WOOL USE PROMOTION ACT 1945.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council hereby make the following Regulations under the Wool Use Promotion Act 1945.

AMENDMENTS OF THE AUSTRALIAN WOOL BOARD REGULATIONS.

Commencement.

1.—(1.) These Regulations (other than regulation 6) shall be deemed to have taken effect from the first day of November, 1948.

(2.) Regulation 6 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have taken effect from the twenty-eighth day of August, 1947.

2. Regulation 3 of the Australian Wool Board Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead :—

Fees of Chairman and members.

" 3.—(1.) The Chairman of the Board shall be paid a fee of Five pounds five shillings and a member, while acting as such, shall be paid a fee of Four pounds four shillings for any day upon which he attends a meeting of the Board or of a Committee of the Board.

" (2.) The Chairman of the Board and each member, while acting as such, shall be paid a fee of Four !pounds four shillings for any day (not being a day for which a fee is payable to him under the last preceding sub-regulation) on which he is engaged, with the approval of the Minister, on business of the Board in Australia.

Travelling expenses.

3. Regulation 4 of the Australian Wool Board Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words "One pound ten shillings" and inserting in their stead the words “Two pounds two shillings ".

Fees and expenses outside Australia.

4. Regulation 5 of the Australian Wool Board Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) the word " and ";

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) the words " Three pounds three shillings per day "and inserting in their stead the words "Four pounds four shillings "; and

(c) by adding at the end thereof the following word and paragraph :—

"; and (c) the transport costs actually and necessarily incurred in travelling to the place where the business is transacted and returning to Australia.".

Conditions of employment of officers.

5. Regulation 9 of the Australian Wool Board Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (3.).

Schedule.

6. The Schedule to the Australian Wool Board Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting in Table A before the words " Assistant (Female)—"the following words:—

“Typists under the age of 21 years may be paid an allowance at the rate of Twelve pounds per annum if able to write shorthand at the rate of 100 words per minute or Twenty-four pounds per annum if able to write shorthand at the rate of 120 words per minute.

Machinists under the age of 21 years may be paid an allowance of Twenty-four pounds per annum on passing such tests as the Minister approves.";

(b) by omitting from that table the words and figures-

and inserting in their stead the following figures:—

(c) by omitting from that table the words and figures-

and inserting in their stead the following figures:—

(i) Advancement beyond Two hundred and thirty-four pounds per annum to be subject to the passing of such tests as the Minister approves
(ii) A minimum salary of Two hundred and twenty-two pounds per annum shall be paid subject to the passing of the tests referred to in paragraph (i) above, with advancement to Two hundred and forty-six pounds per annum twelve months thereafter." ;

(d) by omitting from Table B under the heading " Typists—" the words and figures from and including the word "Adult" to and including the words and figures

“Typist-in- charge 286 298 12”; and

(e) by omitting from that table under the heading "Machinist—" the following words and figures:—

“Adult............................................................... 190 250 12
Advancement beyond £226 to be subject to the passing of such tests as the Minister approves ”.
