AUSTRALIAN MARITIME COLLEGE

STATUTE NO. 2

GENERAL MANAGEMENT STATUTE

Citation 1. This Statute may be cited as the General Management Statute.
Definitions 2. In this Statute, unless the contrary intention appears -
‘debts’ include -
(a) fees payable to the college in accordance with section 32 of the Act; and
(b) other financial obligations incurred by or on behalf of a student to the College in his capacity as a student.
‘facility’ means a laboratory, library, recreation centre, student residence, training centre, training vessel, workshop or other part of the institution conducted by the College and prescribed by the rules for the purposes of this Statute.
Rules relating to management and discipline 3. The Council may make rules, not inconsistent with the Act or a Statute, with respect to -
(a) the management, good government and discipline of the College and of the institution conducted by the College; and
(b) the imposition, by or on behalf of the College, of penalties upon students or persons employed by the College for contravention of, or failure to comply with, a Statute or rules with respect to a matter referred to in paragraph (a).
Particular rules relating to debts and facilities 4. Without limiting section 3, rules made under that section may -
(a) provide for debts to be paid at such time or place, or in such manner, as the Registrar or another officer of the College determines;
(b) prescribe the powers of the Registrar or another officer of the College in relation to a student in respect of whom a debt or part of a debt is not paid in accordance with this Statute or the rules;
(c) empower the Registrar or another officer of the College to direct that a student to whom the rules relate be not be permitted -
(i) to continue with a course of study or instruction of the College;
(ii) to enter to an examination conducted by the College; or
(iii) to enjoy a facility or privilege of the College;
(d) regulate the conduct of a particular facility specified in the rules.
