Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1973

AN ACT

To amend the Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1948–1966.

[Assented to 16 March 1973]

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, the Senate and the House of Representatives of Australia, as follows:—

Short title and citation.

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1973.

(2) The Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1948–1966, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1948–1973.

Commencement.

2. This Act shall come into operation on a date to be fixed by Proclamation.

Qualifications of member for Australian Capital Territory.

3. Section 5 of the Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1948–1966 is repealed.

 

4. Section 7 of the Australian Capital Territory Representation Act 1948–1966 is repealed and the following section substituted:—

Powers, immunities and privileges of member

“7. The member representing the Australian Capital Territory has all the powers, immunities and privileges of a member representing an Electoral Division of a State, and the representation of the Australian Capital Territory shall be on the same terms as the representation of such an Electoral Division.”.
