AN ACT to amend the Education Acts, 1871-1894, and to provide for the payment of Compensation to the Managers of Assisted Schools on the cessation of the Grant-in-aid from Public Funds.

after the coming into operation of this Act, and that a pecuniary compensation should be made to the managers of such Schools in lieu thereof : Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
I. THIS Act may be cited for all purposes as " The Assisted

2. FROM and after the coming into operation of this Act,

3. IN lieu of the Grants-in-aid now paid to Assisted Schools

out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund the sum of Fifteen thousand pounds, and such sum shall be distributed as hereinafter mentioned.
4. (i .) THE Colonial Treasurer, under the warrant of the

| School. | pay to the manager of every Assisted School at present entitled to receive any Grant-in-aid as aforesaid, the sum which bears the same proportion to the said sum of Fifteen thousand pounds as the amount such manager has or is entitled to receive under the said Acts for the year ending the 31st day of December, 1895, bears to the amount paid or payable to such managers collectively. |
| (2.) Such payments shall be made in two equal instalments on the 1st day of January, 1896, or as soon after as the payment can be calculated, and on the 1st day of July, 1896. | |
| (3.) In calculating the sum to be paid as aforesaid, the Grant- in-aid in respect of any School in connection with an Orphanage or other Institution, certified under " The industrial Schools Act, 1874," shall not be taken into account. |

5. SO much of "The Elementary Education Act, 1871," and
