ARTIFICIAL BREEDING OF

STOCK AMENDMENT ACT 1995

AN ACT to amend the Artificial Breeding of Stock

Act 1965.

[Assented to 24 May 1995.]

The Parliament of Western Australia enacts as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Artificial Breeding of Stock

Amendment Act 1995.

Principal Act

2. In this Act the Artificial Breeding of Stock Act 1965* is

referred to as the principal Act.

Commencement

3.    This Act comes into operation on the day on which it

receives the Royal Assent.

Section 4 amended

4.     Section 4 of the principal Act is amended —

(a) in paragraph (b) of the definition of "artificial

breeding" by inserting after "ovum" the following —

(b) in the definition of "authorized ovum transplant technician" by inserting after "ovum" the following —

and embryo "; and

(c) by inserting, in the appropriate alphabetical positions, the following definitions —

"embryo" means a fertilized ovum in the

early stages of development;

"ovum" means an unfertilized female

reproductive cell;

Section 5A amended

5. Section 5A of the principal Act is amended —

(a) in subsection (1) by inserting after "ovum" the

following —

or embryo ));

(b) in subsection (la) —

(i)      by inserting after "ovum" in the first place where it occurs the following —

(ii)     by inserting after "ovum" in the second place where it occurs the following —

or embryo "; and

(iii)    in paragraph (b) by inserting after "ova" the following —

6. Section 5B of the principal Act is amended —

(a) in subsection (4) by inserting after "ovum" the

Section 6 amended

7. Section 6 (6) of the principal Act is amended by deleting

"semen or ova" and substituting the following —

Section 9 amended

S. Section 9 (1) of the principal Act is amended by deleting, in both places where it occurs, "ova or semen" and substituting in each of those places the following —

semen, ova or embryos

Section 10 amended

9.    Section 10 (1) (ba) of the principal Act is amended by

inserting after "ovum" the following —

Section 11 amended

10.     Section 11 of the principal Act is amended —

(a) in subsection (1) (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) by deleting, in each place where it occurs, "semen or ova", and substituting in each of those places the following —

semen, ova or embryos "; and
