Appropriation Act 1998-99

An Act to appropriate money for the purposes of the Territory in respect of the financial year commencing on 1 July 1998, and for related purposes

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:

  1. Short title

    This Act may be cited as the Appropriation Act 1998-99.

  2. Commencement

    This Act commences on the day on which it is notified in the Gazette.

  3. Purposes

    This Act is made for the purposes of—

    (a)sections 57 and 58 of the Australian Capital Territory (Self‑Government) Act 1988 of the Commonwealth; and

(b)sections 6 and 8 of the Financial Management Act 1996.

  1. Interpretation

  2. A word or expression in this Act has the same meaning as in the Financial Management Act 1996.

  3. In this Act—

    “financial year” means the year commencing on 1 July 1998.

  4. Appropriations of $1,529,530,000

  5. Where a department is listed in column 1 of Schedule 1—

    (a)the corresponding amount listed in column 3 of the Schedule is appropriated to the department for the net cost of providing outputs in the financial year for the corresponding appropriation unit listed in column 2;

(b)the corresponding amount listed in column 4 of the Schedule is appropriated to the department for capital injection in the financial year for the corresponding appropriation unit listed in column 2; and

(c)the corresponding amount listed in column 5 of the Schedule is appropriated to the department for payments to be made on behalf of the Territory in the financial year for the corresponding appropriation unit listed in column 2.

  1. The amount listed in column 6 of Part 16 of Schedule 1 is appropriated to the Treasurer’s advance for the purposes of section 18 of the Financial Management Act 1996.

  2. Appropriation units and output classes

  3. A group of outputs listed in column 2 of Schedule 2 is identified as a class of outputs for the purposes of the Financial Management Act 1996.

  4. An appropriation unit listed in column 1 of Schedule 2 consists of the corresponding class of outputs, or group of output classes, listed in column 2 of that Schedule.

  5. Commonwealth specific purpose payments

    Section 17 of the Financial Management Act 1996 applies to all appropriations under subsection 5 (1) of this Act except the appropriations to the following departments:

    (a)Legislative Assembly Secretariat;

(b)Auditor-General;

(c)ACT Executive;

(d)Central Financing Unit;

(e)Superannuation and Insurance Provision Unit;

(f)InTACT;

(g)ACTION;

(h)ACT Forests.
