An Act for applying certain Sums out of the Consolidated Revenues of New South Wales to the Service thereof for the Year One thousand eight hundred and fifty-six and for further appropriating the said Revenues. [18th December, 1855.]

Majesty's reign intituled " An Act to confer a Constitution on New WH E R E A S by the Act of the Governor and Legislative of New South Wales passed in the seventeenth year of Her

Council

"South Wales and to grant a Civil List to Her Majesty''' as amended by the authority of the Imperial Parliament and assented to by Her Majesty it is amongst other things enacted that the Consoli­ dated Revenue Fund in the said Act mentioned shall (after and subject to the payments to be made under certain provisions in the said Act contained and subject to certain charges therein mentioned) be subject to be appropriated to such specific purposes as by any Act of the Legislature of the Colony shall be prescribed in that behalf Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof as follows:—

1. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding eighty-eight thousand six hunched and thirteen pounds twelve shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Civil Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred pounds to defray the salaries and con­ tingencies of His Excellency the Governor General's Establishment

and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred pounds to defray the salaries of the Establishment of the Government Resident at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds for the Establishment at Port Curtis and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand nine hundred and eighty- two pounds nineteen shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Legislative Council Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-three thousand and fifty-eight pounds three shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the General Post Office Estab- lishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand six hundred pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Postage Stamp Printing Office Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand and fifty-eight pounds four shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Port Master's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred pounds to be applied in supplementing the incomes of the Pilots of Port Jackson upon the understanding that so long as the gross earnings of the Five Pilots exceed three thousand two hundred pounds per annum or two hundred and sixty-six pounds thirteen shillings and four-pence per month no increase will be granted and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and seventy-eight pounds eighteen shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Telegraph Stations at Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and ninety-nine pounds twelve shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Light-house Establishment at the South Head of Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine hundred and fifty-seven pounds five shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Floating Light Establishment in Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and sixty-three pounds six shillings 1o defray the salaries and contingencies of the Floating Light Establish- ment at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand two hundred and twenty-three pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Light-house Establishment at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred and forty-seven pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Light-house Establishment at Gabo Island and any sum or sums of money not

probable expense of maintaining the Light-house Establishment at exceeding five hundred pounds as a contribution of one-third of the

Kent 's Group and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and thirty-one pounds six shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Light-house Establishment at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thou­ sand two hundred and ninety-three pounds five shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishment of the Harbour Master at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceed­ ing two thousand two hundred and eighty-nine pounds seventeen shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishment of the Harbour Master at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and sixty-six pounds thirteen shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot Station at Shoalhaven and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and live pounds four shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot at Wollongong and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and five pounds four shillings and six-pence to defray the salary of a Pilot at Kiama and any sum

or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and seventy-one pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and con­ tingencies of the Pilot Station at Port Macquarie and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and sixty-nine pounds nineteen shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot Station at Clarence River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and seventy-one pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot Station at Richmond River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and twenty-one pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of a Pilot Station at the Manning River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and twenty-one pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of a Pilot Station at the M'Leay River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and thirty-four pounds twelve shillings to defray the salaries of Telegraph Stations at Moreton Bay from the first day of July to the thirty-first day of December and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand one hundred and seventy-five pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of Steam Navigation Boards being one thousand one hundred and ten pounds for such Board at Sydney on condition that the Secretary thereof act also as Secretary to the Pilot Board and sixty-five pounds for such Board at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand one hundred and ninety-five pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of Shipping Masters' Establishments being- one thousand nine hundred and thirty pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence for such Establishment at Sydney and two hundred and sixty- five pounds for such Establishment at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand two hundred and nineteen pounds sixteen shillings to defray the salaries and allowances of the Registrar General's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand six hundred and thirty pounds seventeen shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Colonial Storekeeper's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and ninety-six pounds three shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries and allowances of the Gunpowder Magazine Establishment at Goat Island and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand five hundred pounds to enable the Govern­ ment to make provision for carrying on the Public Works hitherto

or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and seventy-five pounds conducted by the Department of the Colonial Architect and any sum

to defray the salaries and contingencies of an Observatory Establish­ ment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand four hundred and five pounds sixteen shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of Botanic Gardens Establish­ ments—being one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one pounds sixteen shillings and eight-pence for such Establishment at Sydney and five hundred and thirty-four pounds for such Establishment at Brisbane and any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine hundred and thirty-four pounds fourteen shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Establishment for keeping in order the Outer and Inner Government Domains and Hyde Park Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight thousand two hundred and twenty-eight pounds thirteen shillings and four- pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Government Printing Establishment.

2. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and
may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding

three thousand one hundred and sixty-four pounds one shilling to defray the salaries and contingencies of Coroners and the salary of the Clerk to the Coroner at Sydney for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six.

3. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may he issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding forty-two thousand three hundred and seventy-two pounds to defray the expenses of the Educational Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand two hundred and four pounds for the maintenance of the Protestant Orphan School at Parramatta and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand eight hundred and eighteen pounds for the maintenance of the Boman Catholic; Orphan School at Parramatta and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-two thousand three hundred and fifty pounds for the support of Denominational and National Schools—being seventeen thousand three hundred and fifty pounds for Denominational Schools and fifteen thousand pounds for National Schools to be expended under the direction of the respective Boards of such Schools and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds to defray the current expenses of a Nautical School upon condition of an equal amount being contributed from private sources.

4. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-four thousand four hundred and seven pounds ten shillings and eleven-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Medical Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds to defray the salary and contingencies of the Establish­ ment of the Medical Adviser to the Government and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand one hundred and fifty-four pounds eighteen shillings to defray the salaries of the Establishment of Health Officers and Medical Board and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and thirty-seven pounds three shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of Vaccine Establishments and any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine thousand eight hundred and sixty-five pounds seventeen shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban

Creek and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twelve thousand

seven hundred and ninety-nine pounds twelve shillings and two-pence
to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Lunatic Asylum at
Parramatta.

5. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-one thousand four hundred and fifteen pounds nineteen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contin­ gencies of the Gold Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding eleven thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven pounds nineteen shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of Gold Establish­ ments within the Settled Districts being seven thousand five hundred and fifty-four pounds nineteen shillings for the Western and four thousand three hundred and thirteen pounds for the Southern Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of Gold Establish­ ments beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money

not

not exceeding five thousand one hundred and twenty-two pounds nineteen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contin­ gencies of the Gold Escort Guards Establishment including conveyance of Gold Money and Escorts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and twenty-five pounds one shilling to defray the salaries of the Gold Receiving Department.

6. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may he issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding fourteen thousand two hundred and twenty-one pounds five shillings and five-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Establishment of the Sydney Branch of the Royal Mint for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six.

7. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifteen thousand and thirty-one pounds two shillings to defray the expense of the Naval Establishment for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six being six thousand five hundred and eighty-seven pounds thirteen shillings for the Steam Gunboat " Torch " one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two pounds six shillings and six-pence for the Gunboat " Spitfire" and six thousand five hundred and seventy- one pounds two shillings and six-pence for the Colonial Allowance to Her Majesty's Sea Force serving within the limits of New South Wales.

8. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-seven thousand and ninety-two pounds thirteen shillings and nine-pence to defray the expenses of Military Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six being eleven thousand three hundred and eighty-one pounds fifteen shillings and one penny for two Companies to be maintained at the expense of the Colony nine thousand nine hundred and eleven pounds nineteen shillings and eight-pence for the General Service of the Military twelve thousand and eighteen pounds nineteen shillings for an Artillery Corps and three thousand seven hundred and eighty pounds for the maintenance of the Volunteer Corps.

9. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and sixty-two thousand four hundred and three pounds nine shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingences of the Police Establishments of the said Colony

for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as herein­ after more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums

of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred and ninety-five pounds eight shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishment of the Inspector General of Police and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand five hundred and seven pounds three shillings to defray the salaries of the Judicial Department of Police in the City of Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-two thousand and eighty-eight pounds one shilling and ten-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Police Establishment of the said City and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand four hundred and forty-nine pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Horse Patrol of the said City and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand two hundred and forty- three pounds seven shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Sydney District Constabulary and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand three hundred and twenty-seven pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray

the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Sydney Water Police Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand eight hundred and seventy-five pounds to defray the salaries of Police Magistrates in Country Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirteen thousand seven hundred and sixteen pounds thirteen shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries of Clerks of Petty Sessions being seven thousand nine hundred and fifty pounds for Clerks within and five thousand seven hundred and sixty-six pounds thirteen shillings and four-pence for Clerks beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand six hundred and seventy-five pounds to defray the salaries of Chief Constables being five thousand six hundred pounds for Chief Constables within and five thousand and seventy-five pounds for Chief Constables beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand and thirty- two pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries of District Constables being four thousand and three pounds two shillings and six-pence for District Constables within and one thousand and twenty-nine pounds seven shillings and six-pence for District Constables beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-five thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight pounds six shillings and six­ pence to defray the salaries of Ordinary Constables being twenty-three thousand nine hundred and five pounds ten shillings and six-pence for Ordinary Constables within (with the understanding that two of the Bat hurst Ordinary Constables are to be stationed at the head of Campbell's River) and eleven thousand eight hundred and eighty-two pounds sixteen shillings for Ordinary Constables beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifteen thousand five hundred and thirty-one pounds nine shillings to defray allowances and contingencies of Police being one thousand five hundred and seventy-seven pounds one shilling for allowances of Police within and one thousand three hundred and twenty-eight pounds eight shillings for allowances of Police beyond the Settled Districts six thousand six hundred and two pounds for contingencies of Police within and five thousand seven hundred and twenty-four pounds for contingencies of Police beyond the Settled Districts fifty pounds to meet Rewards for Informations against offenders and two hundred and fifty pounds to meet contingencies and exigencies of Police generally and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fourteen thousand two hundred and seventy-six pounds eight shillings and two-pence to defray the salaries

allowances and contingencies of the Horse Patrol for Roads and any


sum or sums of money not exceeding nine thousand seven hundred

and ninety-seven pounds two shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Native Police Establishments being six thousand three hundred and sixty-nine pounds six shillings for the Northern Districts and three thousand four hundred and twenty-seven pounds sixteen shillings for the Southern Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred pounds to defray the contingencies of the Police generally to meet claims for Additional Pay for length of service and good conduct according to the scale of increase recommended in the Progress Report of the Select Committee of the said Council adopted by the said Council on the seventeenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and fifty- two.
10. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-nine thousand eight hundred and thirty-six pounds two shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries allowances and con­ tingencies of the Gaol and Penal Establishments of the said Colony

for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine thousand and sixty-three pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Sydney Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand eight hundred and twenty-two pounds eight shillings and eight-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Parramatta Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand eight hundred and three pounds four shillings and ten-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Bathurst Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand seven hundred and fifty-two pounds eighteen shillings and ten-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Maitland Gaol Establish­ ment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand one hundred and sixty-seven pounds five shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Goulburn Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds four shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Brisbane Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirteen thousand two hundred and twenty-seven pounds and four-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Penal Establishment at Cockatoo Island.

11. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and

may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred pounds during the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six to enable the Government to provide for the duties hitherto performed by the Colonial Agent General.

12. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and thirty-three pounds six shillings and eight-pence to defray Pensions and Retired Allowances for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds as Pension to Lady Forbes widow of Sir Francis Forbes for­ merly Chief Justice and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds as Pension to Lady Dowling widow of Sir James Bowling late Chief Justice and any sum or sums of money not exceed-

, ingone hundred pounds as Pension to Mrs. Anne Kinchela widow of the

late Mr. Justice Kinchela and any sum or sums of money not exceed­ ing one hundred pounds as Pension to Mrs. Anne Petrie daughter of
the late Captain Flinders R. N. and any sum or sums of money not
exceeding one hundred pounds as Pension to Madame Leichhardt

mother of the late Dr. Leichhardt and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and thirty-three pounds six shillings and eight- pence as a Retiring Allowance to Mr. Edward Robert Stack Master of the Benevolent Asylum of Sydney.

13. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifteen thousand one hundred and seventy-three pounds seventeen shillings and eight-pence to defray Charitable Allowances for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particu­ larly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred pounds for the support of Free Paupers in the Colonial Hospitals and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred pounds in aid of the Sydney Infirmary and Dispensary on condition of an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight thonsand five hundred and seventy-three pounds seventeen shillings and eight-pence in support of the Establishment of the Benevolent Society of Sydney

on condition of one thousand pounds being raised by voluntary contri­ butions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds in aid of the Asylum for Destitute Children Sydney on condition of an equal amount being raised by private subscrip­ tions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds in aid of Hospitals at Windsor Bathurst Newcastle Port Mac- quarie and Yass at two hundred pounds each on condition of sums to an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds for the main­ tenance of the Hospital at Parramatta on the like condition and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds in aid of the Hospital at Brisbane on the like condition and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds in aid of the Hospital at Maitland on the like condition and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds in aid of the Hospital at Goulburn on the like condition and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds in aid of the erection of a Benevolent Asylum at Penrith on the like condition and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds in aid of the Benevolent Society at Parramatta on the like condition.

14. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-nine thousand three hundred and forty pounds five shillings and two-pence to defray the expense of Public Works and Buildings of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand one hundred and thirty-six pounds twelve shillings to defray the expense of Public Works—being three thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of the employment of the Dredging Machine thirty-six pounds twelve shillings for attending to the Sluices at the Cook's River Dam five hundred pounds for Works in forming Signal Stations at convenient places between the entrance to the Biver Brisbane and the Town one hundred pounds for casual repairs at the Semicircular Quay and two thousand pounds for the repair of the Dam over George's River at Liverpool and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand four hundred and forty pounds to defray the expense of Public Buildings—being two thousand five hundred pounds for the performance of repairs necessary for the preservation of the Govern­ ment House Sydney five hundred pounds for laying down pipes and

providing the necessary fittings for lighting with Gas the Halls Passages and Public Apartments of the Government House Sydney

one thousand pounds for the erection of a Bath-house at the Immigra­ tion Depot Sydney eight hundred and forty pounds for providing Instruments and Buildings for the same at twelve Meteorological Stations one thousand pounds for alterations additions and repairs to the present Buildings at the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban Creek six hundred pounds for alterations and repairs at the Lunatic Asylum Parramatta and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and sixty-six pounds four shillings to defray the expense of repairs and improvements at the Botanic Gardens at Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred pounds to defray the expense of repairs and improvements in Hyde Park and the Govern­ ment Domains Sydney—being two hundred pounds for repairs and improvements generally and five hundred pounds for procuring new Iron Gates from England for the entrance to the Government Domain from Macquarie -street and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds for the improvement of Hyde Park to be expended under the superintendence of the Committee of Management and any

sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand n i n e hundred and fifty pounds to defray the expense of School Buildings being one hundred pounds for erecting a new Privy and providing Iron Bedsteads for the Roman Catholic Orphan School eight hundred and fifty pounds for repairs to Buildings and constructing Drains at the Protestant Orphan School and two thousand pounds for the purchase and fitting up of a Hulk for the proposed Nautical School and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds to defray the expense of Military Buildings—being five hundred pounds for repairs to the Victoria Barracks two hundred pounds for repairs to the Batteries at Dawes' Point Port Phillip Port Macquarie and Bradley's Head three hundred pounds for repairs to Military Buildings in Sydney five hundred pounds for repairs to Military Buildings in Country Districts two hundred and fifty pounds for painting the Military Barracks at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds to defray the expense of providing Furniture for the New Water Police Office Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand nine hundred pounds to defray the expense of Police Buildings within the Settled Districts— being six hundred pounds for repairing the Court House at Newcastle the further sum of two hundred and fifty pounds for the erection of a Court House at Wellington two hundred and fifty pounds for the erection of a Lock-up at Hinton the further sum of four hundred pounds for the erection of a Lock-up at Moruya the further sum of one hundred pounds for completing the Court House and Lock-up at Orange five hundred pounds for erecting a Lock-up at Black heath on the Western Road one thousand five hundred pounds for repairs to Police Buildings within the Settled Districts three hundred pounds for Furni ture for Police Buildings within the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand one hundred and seventy pounds to defray the expense of Police Buildings beyond the Settled Districts being four hundred pounds for the erection of a Lock-up at Burrowa eight hundred pounds for the erection of a Court House at Gundagai six hundred pounds for the erection of a Court and Watch House at Bombala one hundred pounds for completing the Court House at Tenterfield one hundred and twenty pounds for the erection of a Watch-house at the Castlereagh River one hundred pounds for the erection of a Lock-up at Pamhula four hundred pounds for erecting a Lock-up at Richmond River Heads five hundred pounds for repairs to Police Buildings beyond the Settled Districts and one hundred and

fifty pounds for Furniture for Police Buildings beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred

pounds for the erection of Escort Station-houses and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of Horse Patrol Buildings—being five hundred pounds for erecting Stabling and Fencing and repairing Buildings on the Southern Road and one thousand pounds for the like services on the Western Road and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand one hundred and twenty-seven pounds nine shillings and two-pence to defray the expense of Gaol Buildings being two thousand pounds to provide materials and implements for the employ­ ment of prisoners sentenced to hard labor on Works in Darlinghurst Gaol five hundred pounds for the like service in Parramatta Gaol one hundred and seventy pounds for emptying cesspools and removing night soil at the Bathurst Gaol two hundred and seven pounds nine shillings and two-pence for re-shingling certain portions of the Barracks at the Penal Establishment at Cockatoo Island and two hundred and fifty pounds for the employment of prisoners in the streets of Brisbane and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand pounds

thousand eight hundred and fifty-six and any sum or sums of money
not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense
of Furniture and Fittings for Colonial Public Offices.
15. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceed­ ing forty-live thousand six hundred and eighty-nine pounds four shil­ lings and ten-pence for constructing upholding and repairing the Roads
Streets and Bridges of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that
is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand
five hundred pounds to defray the expense of constructing upholding
and repairing the Public Roads Bridges and Ferries on which Tolls have been established and any sum or sums of money not exceed­ ing thirty thousand pounds to be expended under the supervision

of Road Trustees Wardens Benches of Magistrates and Road Sur­

veyors and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand
pounds to defray the expense of supervising repairs on the under­
mentioned Roads that is to say the Western Road from Parramatta to Bathurst the Southern Road from Salt-pan Creek to Goulburn the Northern Road from Morpeth to the Gap at Murrurundi and the Moreton Bay Road from Brisbane to the Gap leading to Drayton being an allowance of five hundred pounds each per annum to four Sur­ veyors and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand one

hundred and seventy-nine pounds four shillings and ten-pence for the

formation of Streets in Sydney opened through Crown Lands and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds for the con­

struction of a Roadway through the principal Street in Drayton and a

Tank in the neighbourhood and any sum or sums of money not ex­ ceeding six hundred pounds for the construction of two Bridges over the Creek known as the River Jordan in Russell and Howick Streets in the Town of Bathurst and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds for the construction of a Bridge over the Macquarie River on the road from Wollongong to Kiama and Shoal- haven and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand

pounds for the repair of the Fitz Roy Bridge at Windsor if upon
inquiry it shall appear desirable to expend that sum in such repair and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred pounds

in aid of the completion of the Randwick and Coogee Road and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds for painting and
keeping in repair the Bridge over the Yass River and any sum or
sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds for painting and keeping

in repair the Bridge at Goulburn and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds for painting and keeping in repair the Victoria Bridge Maitland and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty

pounds for painting and keeping in repair the Paddy's River Bridge
and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and ten
pounds for lighting the Government Lamps in the Streets of Sydney.

1G. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding sixty-two thousand two hundred and fifty pounds to defray the charge for the Conveyance of the Mails of the said Colony for the year one

thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more paaticularly
expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding forty
thousand pounds for the said service within and beyond the Settled
Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand
five hundred pounds for the said service Foreign and Coastwise and any

sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds

for landing and shipping Mails including porterage and any sum or

sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds for incidental expenses connected with the supervision of Country Post Offices and Postal Contracts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds for incidental expenses on the Establishment of Pail-
way Communication with Parramatta and any sum or sums of money

not exceeding twenty thousand pounds as a contribution by the Colony of New South "Wales towards the re-establishment of Postal Steam Communication with England.
17. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding
four thousand three hundred pounds to defray Grants in aid of Public

Institutions for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six

being two hundred pounds in aid of the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts three thousand pounds towards completing the interior fittings

of the Australian Museum one thousand pounds in aid of the Mait-

land School of Arts on condition of an equal amount being raised by private contributions and one hundred pounds in aid of the Goulburn
Mechanics' Institute.

18. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-nine thousand two hundred and ninety-four pounds to defray the expense of Stores for the several Public Establishments and

Services of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred

and fifty-six being one hundred and twenty pounds for the Establish­ ment of His Excellency the Governor General one thousand pounds for the Post Office Establishment six hundred pounds for Ports and Harbours—being five hundred pounds for Ports and Harbours

generally and one hundred pounds for a Pilot Station at the M'Leay River for warps and anchors to begin the establishment one hundred

pounds for the Botanic Gardens forty pounds for Hyde Park and Domains nine hundred pounds for the Protestant Orphan School seven hundred and fifty pounds for the Roman Catholic Orphan School one thousand eight hundred pounds for the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban
Creek two thousand one hundred and thirty-two pounds for the Lunatic; Asylum at Parramatta four hundred and seventeen pounds for Gold

Establishments within the Settled Districts two hundred and six pounds for Gold Establishments beyond the Settled Districts two hundred and fifty pounds for Gold Guards eight thousand two hundred

and fifty pounds for Police Establishments one thousand four hundred

and twenty-nine pounds for Gaol and Penal Establishments three

thousand five hundred pounds for Clothing for Convicts at the Gaols and Penal Establishments and seven thousand eight hundred pounds

for Stores for Miscellaneous Services—being six thousand pounds for

Stationery Bookbinding and Paper for Printing for Services chargeable on the General Revenue one thousand five hundred pounds for Fuel

for Public Departments in the District of Sydney and three hundred
pounds for other Stores.

19. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding

twenty-five thousand eight hundred and ninety pounds to defray the

charge of Miscellaneous Services of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds for Postage of the Colonial Public Departments chargeable; on the General Revenue and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds for Military and Naval Postage and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds for Newspapers

for Record and for the Secretary of State and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty pounds for preparing an Index to the New South Wales Government Gazette and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds for Public General Acts Parliamentary Papers Annual Army List and Royal Calendar payable by the Colonial Agent General and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand two hundred pounds for expenses attending the preparation of the Electoral Lists and the Election of Members to serve in the Legislative Council in Sydney and Country Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand pounds to meet the expense of taking the Census in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty- six and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and

thirty pounds for the compilation of Meteorological Tables and allow­

ance for House Pent to the Keeper at the South Head of Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds for the erection of Pounds and allowances to Poundkeepers within and beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds for binding and lettering the General Revenue Accounts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding

thirty pounds for Provisions to be left at Booby Island for the relief of

shipwrecked persons and any sum or sums of money not exceeding

five hundred pounds to defray the Travelling Expenses of His Excel­
lency the Governor General while in the discharge of his Public Duties and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred
pounds to provide a Queen's Plate to be run for at Homebush or such,

other Racecourse in the County of Cumberland and under such rules and regulations as the Australian Jockey Club with the sanction of His Excellency the Governor General shall appoint and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds for the payment of the Stipend of a Minister of the Jewish Congregation in Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds for the Inspector of Weights and Measures at one hundred and fifty

pounds per annum and any sum or sums of money not exceeding

fifty pounds for a Secretary to the Returning Officer to perform the
Electoral Duties formerly devolving on the Town Clerk of Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand pounds to be paid to the City Commissioners in aid of City Funds and any sum or

sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds to meet unforeseen
expenses in eases of emergency to be hereafter accounted for.
20. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may he issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and
fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-four
thousand four hundred and eighty-three pounds sixteen shillings and

eight-pence to defray the expense of those Services for which provision was made in the Schedule A part one to the Act of Parliament thirteen and fourteen Victoria cap. fifty-nine being the expenditure authorized after the deduction of such amounts as have been provided for corres­ ponding Services in the Schedule A to Schedule 1 of the Act of Parliament eighteen and nineteen Victoria cap. fifty-four.
21. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-four
thousand three hundred and eighty pounds eighteen shillings and
eight-pence to defray the expense of those services for which provision was made in the Schedule A part 2 of the Act of Parliament

thirteen and fourteen Victoria cap. fifty-nine being the expenditure

authorized after the deduction of such amounts as have been provided for corresponding Services in the Schedules A and B to Schedule 1

of the Act of Parliament eighteen and nineteen Victoria cap. fifty-four.

22. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand and fifty-eight pounds to defray the expense of those Services for which provision was made in the Schedule A part 3 to the Act of Parliament

thirteen and fourteen Victoria cap. fifty-nine being the expenditure
authorized after the deduction of the amount provided for corresponding Services in Schedule C to Schedule 1 of the Act of Parliament eighteen and nineteen Victoria cap. fifty-four.

23. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding fourteen thousand four hundred pounds to defray the expense of Temporary Increases to Salaries payable under Schedule C to Schedule 1 of the Act of Par­ liament eighteen and nineteen Victoria cap. fifty-four.

24. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and seventy-five pounds to defray the salary of the Chief Commissioner of Insolvent Estates.

25. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand

pounds to defray the salary of the Chairman of Quarter Sessions.

26. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and thirty-two thousand six hundred and ninety-one pounds one shilling to defray the expense of the following Services that is to say any sum or

sums of moneynot exceeding eighty-six thousand and forty-eight pounds three shillings and two-pence to defray the expense of the Survey

Sale and Management of Crown Lands being fifty-three thousand seven hundred and fifty-eight pounds eighteen shillings and six-pence for the Surveyor General's Establishment six hundred and eighty pounds for the Examiner of Coal Fields and Coal Mines thirty-one thousand three

hundred and nine pounds four shillings and eight-pence for the Estab­ lishments of the Commissioners of Crown Lands and three hundred pounds for the Court of Claims and any sum or sums of money not

exceeding one hundred and twenty-five thousand nine hundred and
twelve pounds seventeen shillings and ten-pence to defray the expense of Immigration from the United Kingdom being one hundred thousand
pounds to be expended on the passage money and other charges
incidental to the removal of Emigrants from the United Kingdom ten
thousand pounds for Gratuities to Surgeons Superintendent Masters
Officers and others of Immigrant Vessels for services during the voyage seven thousand eight hundred and sixty-five pounds ten shillings and six-pence for the Agent for Immigration Sydney three thousand four hundred and forty-six pounds eight shillings for Immigration Officers Country Districts and four thousand six hundred pounds nineteen shillings and four-pence for Quarantine and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand pounds to defray the expense

of Bounties on the introduction of Foreign Immigrants and any sum

or sums of money not exceeding three thousand one hundred pounds to defray the expense of Aborigines and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand three hundred and fifty-five pounds to defray the expense of Roads Streets and Bridges and any sum or

sums of money not exceeding four thousand two hundred and seventy-

five pounds to defray the expense of Miscellaneous Services.

27. Out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding eighty-nine thousand nine hundred and eighty-six pounds four shillings and ten-pence for defraying the Supplementary Charge on the Colonial Treasury of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and forty-five pounds three shillings to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Establishment of His Excellency the Governor General and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and ten

pounds twelve shillings to defray the Supplementary Charge of the

Legislative Council Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand three hundred and thirty-seven pounds eighteen shillings and nine-pence to defray the Supplementary Charge

of the Establishment of the Harbour Master at Newcastle and any
sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred and two pounds

three shillings and nine-pence to defray the Supplementary Charge of:

the Light-house at Kent's Group and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty-one pounds to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Light-house at Gabo Island and any sum or sums of money not exceed­ ing sixty pounds to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Estab­ lishment of the Harbour Master at Port Curtis and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and ninety-five pounds to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Pilot Station at the Manning River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and twenty- six pounds six shillings and one penny to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Colonial Storekeeper's Establishment and any sum or

sums of money not exceeding two thousand three hundred and nine­

teen pounds thirteen shillings and four-pence to defray the Supplemen­

tary Charge of the Government Printing Establishment and any sum
or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and thirteen pounds and nine-pence to defray the Supplementary Charge for Coroners and any sum or sums of money not exceeding the further sum of two thousand one hundred and fifty-nine pounds to provide for the allowance to the Commissioners appointed to visit the several Districts in which Schools are situated to examine the Scholars and to make a report of the state of Education and the Condition of Schools generally at three
pounds each per diem whilst employed to include Travelling Expenses

from the fifteenth day of November one thousand eight hundred and fifty-four to the thirty-first day of October one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hun­

dred and forty-three pounds one shilling and two-pence for remuneration

and clerical expenses of the Commissioners appointed in compliance

with an Address of the Legislative Council to inspect and report upon the Lunatic Asylums of the Colony and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand two hundred and twenty-nine pounds two shillings and two-pence to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Naval Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and forty pounds to meet the expense of Offices for the Military Staff being the Rent of a House provided for the Major of Brigade in consideration of his having vacated his official residence in Bent-street converted into Staff Offices from the twenty-fifth day of November one thousand eight hundred and fifty-four at four hundred

pounds per annum and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds to defray the Supplementary Charge of

Police for Sydney City and District—being for the purchase from England of a New Prison Van and Harness and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds to defray the Supplementary Charge for Clerks of Petty Sessions—being one hundred pounds for

and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-three pounds six shillings and eight-pence as an allowance to the Police Magistrate at Newcastle in consideration of extra police duties performed by him in the District of Raymond Terrace from the first day of September at one hundred pounds per annum and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ninety-five pounds twelve shillings and six pence to defray the Supplementary Charge of Police Allowances—being fifty pounds to the Clerk of Petty Sessions at Brisbane for performing the duties of Clerk of the Water Police Court and forty-five pounds twelve shillings and six­ pence in lieu of forage to the Clerk of Petty Sessions at Campbelltown Camden and Picton at two shillings and six-pence per diem and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and ninety pounds four shillings to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Police Establish­ ment at Deniliquin and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-five pounds eight shillings to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Sydney Gaol Establishment—being for the purchase of Religious Books for the Prisoners in Darlinghurst Gaol and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seventy-one pounds seventeen shillings to defray the Supplementary Charge of the Parramatta Gaol Establish­ ment—being thirty-nine pounds thirteen shillings for the salaries of two additional Turnkeys at three shillings and three-pence each per diem from the first day of September and thirty-two pounds four shillings for the salary of a Dispenser at three shillings and six-pence per diem from the first day of July and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-five pounds to purchase Religious Books for the Prisoners at Cockatoo Island and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and ninety-three pounds six shillings and four-pence to meet estimated deficiency in the amount voted for Gaol and Penal Establishments caused by the increased cost of Pro­ visions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and twenty pounds two shillings to defray the Supplementary Charge for Charitable Allowances—being seventy pounds two shillings in aid

of the Benevolent Society at Singleton Patrick's Plains an equal amount

having been raised by private contributions in the year one thou­

sand eight hundred and fifty-four one hundred and fifty pounds in aid

of the Tamworth Benevolent Society on condition of an equal amount

being raised by private contributions and one hundred pounds in aid of the Armidale and New England Hospital an equal amount being raised by private contributions and any sum or sums of money

to defray the Supplementary Charge for Public Works—being one not exceeding three thousand and twelve pounds fifteen shillings

thousand seven hundred and thirty-nine pounds nine shillings for repairs to the Dredging Machine and Punts four hundred pounds for

the construction of a Dam at Tarban Creek to secure a supply of fresh water to the Lunatic Asylum five hundred pounds for repairing the Wool Shed and Road at the Circular Quay a further sum of seventy-

three pounds six shillings towards reclaiming the ground within the

sea-wall of the Botanical Garden at Sydney being the wages of two men to be employed in removing and spreading the Silt discharged from the punt belonging to the Steam Dredge from the first day of September at seven shillings each per diem one hundred and fifty

pounds for fencing in a piece of ground for a Cemetery at Orange and

one hundred and fifty pounds to provide for the employment of Prisoners at Brisbane and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twelve thousand one hundred and thirty-eight pounds twelve shillings and eight-pence to defray the Supplementary Charge for Public Build­ ings—being eight hundred and fifty pounds for the erection of a Wash-

supplied to Her Majesty's Steamship " Torch" whilst in search of the shipwrecked Crew of the " Ningpo" and of the late Mr. Strange and his companions sixty-two pounds for the cost of preparing specimens of indigenous woods to he deposited in the Australian Museum two hundred
pounds for the erection of Hustings the payment of Returning Officers

and Polling Clerks and for other expenses of the Election of Members to serve in the said Council twenty-five pounds for the erection of a Pound at the intersection of Dowling-street and the Old Botany Road six thousand pounds for the purpose of continuing Temporary Relief to the Ministers of Religion who receive Salaries from the Govern­ ment at the rates and on the conditions specified in the Report of the Select Committee in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty- four One hundred and fifty pounds for the Inspector of Weights and Measures and twenty-six pounds seven shillings and nine-pence for the Secretary to the Returning Officer to perform the Electoral duties formerly devolving on the Town Clerk of Sydney from the twenty-first day of June to the thirty-first day of December at fifty pounds per

annum and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand

five hundred pounds to defray the expenses of the Civil List and

Public Worship under the Act of Parliament thirteen and fourteen Victoria caput fifty-nine which remained unprovided for on the Proclamation of the New Constitution Act from the date of the Pro­ clamation up to the thirty-first day of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fourteen thousand pounds to defray the expenses of services chargeable on the Territorial Revenue which remained unprovided for from the

date of the Proclamation of the New Constitutional Act to the thirty-

first day of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand pounds to be
expended on the Passage Money and other charges incidental to the
removal of Emigrants from the United Kingdom.

28. The Treasurer of the said Colony shall issue and pay the said several sums to such persons for the purposes hereinbefore men­ tioned upon such days and in such proportions as the Governor for the time being by any warrant or order in writing to be signed by him shall from time to time order and direct and the payments so to be made shall be charged upon and payable out of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund.

29. The said Treasurer shall in his Accounts from time to time
be allowed credit for any sum or sums of money paid by him in
pursuance of such warrant or order in writing as aforesaid and the

receipt or receipts of the respective persons to whom the same shall be so paid shall be a full and valid discharge to the said Treasurer in

passing his said Accounts for any such sum or sums as shall be therein
mentioned and he shall and do receive credit for the same accordingly.
