No. XXXIV.

An Act for applying certain Sums arising from the Revenue receivable in New South Wales to the Service thereof for the Year One thousand eight hundred and fifty-five and for further appropriating the said Revenue. [1st

December, 1854.]

WHEREAS by a certain Act of Parliament passed in the fifth and sixth year of the reign of Her present Majesty Queen Victoria intituled " An Act for the Government of New South Wales and Van
Diemen's Land " it was among other things enacted that the Governor

of the said Colony of New South Wales with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council should have authority to make laws for the

peace welfare and good government of the said Colony and that with the deductions and subject to the provisions therein contained the whole of Her Majesty's Revenue within the said Colony arising from taxes duties rates and imposts levied on Her Majesty's subjects within the said Colony should be appropriated to the public service within the said Colony by Ordinances to be for that purpose enacted by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council of the said Colony and in no other manner And whereas by a certain other Act of Parliament passed in the thirteenth and fourteenth year

of the reign of Her said Majesty intituled " An Act for the better
Government of Her Majesty's Australian Colonies" it was amongst
other things enacted that after the establishment of the Colony of

Victoria so much of the said first recited Act as made payable to Her Majesty Her Heirs and Successors out of the Revenue Fund of the

said Colony of New South Wales the sums therein mentioned for defraying the expenses of the services and purposes named in the Schedules thereto annexed should be repealed and that in lieu thereof there should be payable to Her Majesty every year out of the Revenue Funds arising from taxes duties rates and imposts levied within the said Colony of New South Wales after the establishment of the Colony

of Victoria as aforesaid the several sums mentioned in the Schedule
(A) to the said second recited Act annexed And whereas the Colony
of Victoria hath been established in manner provided by the said

second recited Act Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales with the advice and consent of the

Legislative Council thereof as follows :—

1. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty-five thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight pounds fifteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Civil Establishments of the said Colony unpro­ vided for by the second part of the Schedule to the said second recited

hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that

is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four

hundred and fifteen pounds fifteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of His Excellency the Governor General's Establishment (the several items of Increase of Pay to include the increased Military allowance of three-pence halfpenny per day) and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds to defray the salary of the Government Resident at Moreton
Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand two

hundred and sixty-one pounds ten shillings and ten-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Legislative Council Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fourteen thousand seven hundred and nine pounds two shillings and sixpence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the General Post Office Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred pounds to defray the salaries and con­ tingencies of the Postage Stamp Printing Office Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand four hundred and seventy-nine pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Port Master's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and eighty-seven pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Telegraph Stations and any sum or sums of money not exceeding

six hundred and nine pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies

of the Light-house Establishment at the South Head of Port Jackson

and any sum or sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred and forty-two pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Floating Light Establishment in Port Jackson and any sum or sums

of money not exceeding nine hundred and eighty-five pounds ten

shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Light-house Establishment at Gabo Island and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred pounds as a contribution of one-third of the probable expense of maintaining the Light-house Establishment at

Kent's Group and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hun­

dred and eighty-four pounds fifteen shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishment of the Pilot in charge of the

Basin at Wollongong and any sum or sums of money not exceeding
one thousand two hundred and eighty-two pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishment of the Harbour Master

at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and fifty-six pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies
of the Establishment of the Harbour Master at Moreton Bay and any

sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds to defray the salaries of the Establishment of the Harbour Master at Port Curt is and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred and sixty - two pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Floating

Light Establishment at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money

not exceeding four hundred and seventy pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot Station at Port Macquarie and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and eighteen pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot Station at Clarence River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and seventy pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Pilot Station at Richmond River and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and seventy-five pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of Steam Navigation Boards being eight hundred and ten pounds for such Board at Sydney on con­ dition that the Secretary thereof act also as Secretary to the Pilot

Board and sixty-five pounds for such Board at Moreton Bay and any
sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand two hundred and seventeen pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies
of Shipping Masters' Establishments being two thousand and fifty-
seven pounds ten shillings for such Establishment at Sydney and one hundred and sixty pounds for such Establishment at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contin­
gencies of the Colonial Storekeeper's Establishment and any sum or
sums of money not exceeding two hundred and two pounds one shilling and eight-pence to defray the salaries and allowances of the Gun­ powder Magazine Establishment at Goat Island and any sum or sums
of money not exceeding three thousand two hundred and thirty-five
pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Colonial Architect's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand eight hundred and fifty-one pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Botanic Gardens Establishment at Sydney and any sum or sums
of money not exceeding four hundred and thirty-four pounds to
defray the salaries and contingencies of a Botanic Gardens Establish­ ment at Brisbane Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and seventy-five ponnds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Establishments for keeping in order the Outer and Inner Government Domains and Hyde Park Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand eight hundred and thirty-seven pounds to defray the salaries allow­ ances and contingencies of the Government Printing Establishment.
2. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand eight hundred and thirteen pounds seven­ teen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of Coroners and the salary of the Clerk to the Coroner at Sydney for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.

3. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-eight thousand five hundred and thirty-seven pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Educational Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding

three thousand eight hundred and thirty-one pounds to defray the

salaries and contingencies of the Protestant Orphan School Parramatta

and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand one hundred and twenty pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Roman Catholic Orphan School Parramatta and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-nine thousand five hundred and eighty-six pounds in support of Denominational and National Schools to be expended under the direction of the respective Boards of such Schools being fourteen thousand five hundred and eighty-six pounds for Deno­ minational Schools and fifteen thousand pounds for National Schools and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds to provide for the allowance to the Commissioners appointed to visit the several districts in which Schools are situated to examine the scholars and to make a report of the state of education and the condition of the Schools generally at three pounds each per diem whilst employed to include travelling expenses.

4. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and
imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums
of money not exceeding thirteen thousand and fifty-five pounds six

shillings

shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contin­
gencies of the Medical Establishments of the said Colony for the year
one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particu­ larly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and seventeen pounds to defray the salaries of the Establishments of Health Officers at Port Jackson Newcastle and Moreton Bay and the salary of the Clerk to the Medical Board Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and eighty pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of Vaccine Establishments and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds to defray the salary of a Clerk to the Medical Adviser of the Government and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand two hundred and sixty-live pounds sixteen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban Creek and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand six hundred and forty-two pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Lunatic Asylum at Parramatta.
5. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty thousand three hundred and fifty-eight pounds twelve shillings and eleven-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Gold Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding seventeen thousand and nine pounds eleven shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Gold Establishments within the Settled Districts being twelve thousand four hundred and seventy-six pounds and ten-pence for the "Western and four thousand five hundred and thirty-three pounds ten shillings and five-pence for the Southern Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand seven hundred and three pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contin­
gencies of the Gold Establishments beyond the Settled Districts being
seven hundred and nineteen pounds eleven shillings and three-pence
for salaries for the Liverpool Plains two hundred and seventy-three
pounds seven shillings and six-pence for salaries for the Gwydir four hundred and sixty-nine pounds eleven shillings and three-pence for salaries for the New England and three hundred and eighty-two pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence for salaries for the Murrumbidgee
Districts three hundred pounds for allowances for the said Establish­
ments and one thousand five hundred and fifty-seven pounds fifteen
shillings for contingencies for the said Establishments and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand three hundred and forty-
six pounds five shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Gold Escort Guards Establishment including conveyance of Gold Money
and Escorts being one thousand three hundred and forty-nine pounds fifteen shillings for salaries for the Western Road and seven hundred and sixty-six pounds ten shillings for salaries for the Southern Road two hundred and thirty pounds for contingencies for the said Estab­ lishment and five thousand pounds for conveyance of Gold Money and
Escorts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand
pounds to meet contingent unforeseen Gold Expenses in cases of emer­
gency in the Gold Fields and to be hereafter accounted for and any
sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and ninety-nine pounds fourteen shillings and two-pence to defray the salaries of the
Gold Receiving Department.
6. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts

there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money

not exceeding twelve thousand and five pounds one shilling and five- pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Establishment of the Sydney Branch of the Royal Mint for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.

7. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-six thousand nine hundred and sixty-six pounds nineteen shillings and three-pence to defray the expense of the Naval and Military Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five being five thousand seven hundred and forty-two pounds thirteen shillings and four-pence for the salaries of the Naval Estab­ lishment and twenty-one thousand two hundred and twenty-four pounds five shillings and eleven-pence for the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Military Establishment.

8. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand seven hundred and twenty-four pounds and three-pence to defray the expense of Volunteer Corps for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.
9. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and forty-two thousand six hundred and forty-two pounds four shillings and two-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Police Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums

of money not exceeding one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five

pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and con­ tingencies of the Establishment of the Inspector General of Police and any sum. or sums of money not exceeding thirty-five thousand nine hundred and eight pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Police Establishment for the City and Dis­ trict of Sydney being two thousand one hundred and eighteen pounds seven shillings and six-pence for the salaries of the Judicial Depart­ ment of the Police of the City twenty-six thousand three hundred and thirteen pounds twelve shillings and six-pence for the salaries allow­ ances and contingencies of the City Police four thousand two hundred and forty-two pounds five shillings for the salaries and contingencies

Native Police in the Districts of Murrumbidgee Albert and Lower Darling and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand
five hundred pounds to defray the contingencies of the Police generally
to meet claims for Additional Pay for length of service and good conduct according to the scale of increase recommended in the Progress Report of the Select Committee of the said Council adopted by the said Council on the seventeenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two.
10. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums
of money not exceeding twenty-nine thousand two hundred and
thirteen pounds five shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Gaol and Penal Establishments of the said Colony
for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter
more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money
not exceeding five thousand three hundred and fifteen pounds twelve
shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Sydney Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand and eighty-one pounds sixteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Parramatta

Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding

three thousand one hundred and forty-eight pounds sixteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Bathurst
Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one
thousand nine hundred and forty-five pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Maitland Gaol Establish­ ment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand two hundred and fifty-two pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Goulburn Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand three hundred and fifteen pounds eight shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Brisbane Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine thousand eight hundred and

thirty-seven pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Penal Establishment at Cockatoo Island and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand three hundred and sixteen pounds sixteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Penal Establishment at Newcastle.

11. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and im­ posts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds to defray the salary

of the Colonial Agent General for the year one thousand eight hundred
and fifty-five.

12. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and im-

' posts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of

money not exceeding thirty-six thousand pounds to provide for the Temporary Increases to the Salaries of Public Officers for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five according to the scale recom- mended by the Select Committee of the said Council on the twenty- eighth day of June one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three.

13. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums

of money not exceeding one thousand and thirty-three pounds six
shillings and eight-pence to defray Pensions and Retired Allowances

for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter

more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds as Pension to Lady Forbes widow of Sir Francis Forbes formerly Chief Justice and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds as Pension to Lady Dowling widow of Sir James Dowling late Chief Justice and any sum or sums

of money not exceeding one hundred pounds as Pension to Mrs. Anne

Kinchela widow of the late Mr. Justice Kinchela and any sum or

sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds as Pension to Mrs. Anne Petrie daughter of the late Captain Flinders R.N. and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds as Pension to Madame Leichhardt mother of the late Dr. Leichhardt and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and thirty-three pounds
six shillings and eight-pence as a Retiring Allowance to Mr. Edward Robert Stack Master of the Benevolent Asylum of Sydney in accord­

ance with a Resolution of the said Council passed on the sixth day of

July one thousand eight hundred and fifty-four and any sum or sums

of money not exceeding two hundred pounds as a Retiring Allowance

to Mr. Henry Canny Clerk of the Record and Copying Branches in
the office of the said Council in consideration of his special zeal and

industry during a long term of service and his loss of sight in the performance of the duties of his office in accordance with a Resolution
of the said Council passed on the eighth day of November one thousand
eight hundred and fifty-four.

14. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding eleven thousand two hundred and forty-seven pounds to defray Charitable Allowances for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more par­ ticularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred pounds for the support of Free Paupers in the Colonial Hospitals and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred pounds in aid of the Sydney Infirmary and Dispensary on condition of an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand five hundred and forty-seven pounds in support of the Establishment of the Benevolent Society of Sydney on condition of

one thousand pounds being raised by voluntary contributions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds in aid of the Asylum for Destitute Children Sydney on condition of an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred pounds in aid of Hospitals at Parramatta Windsor Bathurst Newcastle Port Maequarie Yass and Brisbane at two hundred pounds each on con­ dition of sums to an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred pounds in aid of the Hospitals at Maitland and Goulburn at three hundred pounds each on the like condition and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds in aid of the Benevolent Society at Parramatta on the like condition.

15. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding forty thousand two hundred and seventy-nine pounds nineteen shillings and two-pence to defray the expense of Public Works and Buildings of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding twelve thousand six hundred and nine pounds eleven shillings and ten-pence to defray the expense of Public Works—being seven thousand one hundred and seventy-three pounds one shilling and ten-pence towards the construction of the Dry Dock at Cockatoo Island three thousand two hundred pounds to defray the expense of the employment of the Dredging Machine five hundred pounds for upholding and keeping in repair the Breakwater at Newcastle thirty-six pounds ten shillings for attending to the Sluices of the Cook's River Dam the further sum of three hundred pounds for improving the Wharf at Newcastle four hundred pounds for repairing the Queen's Wharf at Morpeth one thousand pounds towards improving the Navigation of the River

Brisbane and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand

five hundred pounds to defray the expense of Public Buildings—being the further sum of three thousand pounds towards making alterations and additions at the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban Creek and one thousand five hundred pounds for providing a Store-house and Resi­ dences for the Superintendent and Keepers of the Light-house at Gabo Island including freight and the conveyance of workmen and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred pounds to defray the expense of School Buildings—being three hundred pounds for

alterations and additions at the Protestant Orphan School at Par­

ramatta and one hundred pounds for forming a Tank at the Roman
Catholic Orphan School at Parramatta and any sum or sums of money

not exceeding one hundred and eighty-five pounds to defray the expense of repairs to Buildings for the Gold Establishments being forty-five pounds for the Northern District ninety pounds for the Western District and fifty pounds for the Southern District and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of Military Buildings—being five hundred pounds for incidental repairs to the Victoria Barracks one hundred pounds for repairs to the Batteries at Dawes' Point Fort Phillip Port Maequarie and Bradley's Head three hundred pounds for repairs to Military Buildings in Sydney and six hundred pounds for repairs to Military Buildings in the Country Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand three hundred and ten pounds to defray the expense of Police Buildings within the Settled Districts being four hundred pounds for renewing the roof of the Police Office at Parramatta four hundred pounds for additions to the Court House at Goulburn the further sum of one hundred and thirty

any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds to defray the expense of repairs and improvements in Hyde Park and the Government Domains Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and sixty pounds to defray the expense of repairs and improvements in the Botanic Gardens Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds for the improvement of Hyde Park and to be expended under the superin­ tendence of the Hyde Park Committee of Management and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand pounds to defray the expence of casual repairs additions and alterations to Colonial Public Buildings as per Return annexed (at pages fifty-five and fifty-six) to the Estimates of Expenditure for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of Furniture and Fittings for Colonial Public Offices.

16. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of

money not exceeding thirty-five thousand eight hundred and twenty- five pounds for constructing upholding and repairing the Public Roads Streets and Bridges of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of constructing upholding and repairing the Public Roads Bridges and Perries on which Tolls have been established and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-nine thousand four hundred pounds to defray the expense of repairing the Leading Thoroughfares of the Colony and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds to defray the expense of supervising repairs on the undermentioned Roads that

is to say the Western Road from Parramatta to Bathurst the Southern Road from Salt Pan Creek to Goulburn the Northern Road from

Morpeth to the Gap at Murrurundi and the Moreton Bay Road from

Brisbane to the Gap leading to Drayton being an allowance of five

hundred pounds each per annum to four Surveyors and any sum or sums of money not exceeding the further sum of six hundred pounds towards the making of the Botany and Mudbank Road and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-five pounds to provide

for the repair of the Victoria Bridge at Maitland and any sum or
sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds towards the making and repairing of Cleveland-street Redfern and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds to keep in repair the Roadway of the Circular Quay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred pounds for erecting a Bridge over Stanley Creek near Durandur and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds for lighting the Government Lamps in the streets of Sydney.
17. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-one thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds to defray the charge for the Conveyance of the Mails of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty thousand pounds for the said
service within and beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums

of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds for the

said service Foreign and Coastwise and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds for Landing and Shipping

Mails including Porterage and any sum or sums of money not exceed­

ing one hundred pounds for incidental expenses connected with the
Supervision of Country Post Offices and Postal Contracts.

18. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and im­ posts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds in aid of the Sydney

Mechanics' School of Arts for the year one thousand eight hundred

20. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and im­ posts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-three thousand nine hundred and sixty pounds to defray the charge of Miscellaneous Services of the said Colony
for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five as hereinafter
more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds for Postage of the Colonial Public Departments chargeable on the General Revenue and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds for Military and Naval Postage and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds for Newspapers for Record and for the

Secretary of State and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty

pounds for preparing an Index to the New South Wales Government

Gazette and any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty pounds for Public General Acts Parliamentary Papers Annual Army Lists and Royal Calendar payable by the Colonial Agent General and any sum

compilation of the Meteorological Tables and Allowance for House-

rent to the Keeper at the South Head of Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds for the erection

of Pounds and Allowances to Poundkcepers within and beyond the

Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seventy

pounds for binding and lettering the General Revenue Accounts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred pounds for

Rent of Office occupied by the Principal Superintendent of Convicts

and any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty pounds for provisions to be left at Booby Island for the relief of shipwrecked persons and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds to provide a Queen's Plate to be run for at Homebush or such other Racecourse in the County of Cumberland and under such rules and regulations as the Australian Jockey Club with the sanction of His Excellency the Governor General shall appoint and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand pounds to be paid to the first Steam Company which shall establish a monthly line of Steamers between Sydney and Great Britain by which the course of Post shall

of this Colony intended for the Universal Exhibition to be held at

21. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums

for the purpose of affording temporary relief to the Ministers of Religion

of the different Denominations entitled to receive the same in the propor­ tion to fifty pounds to each Married and twenty-five pounds to each

Single Minister on condition of an equal amount in each case being

subscribed by the Laity in accordance with the Report of a Select Committee of the said Council adopted by the said Council on the twenty-fourth day of October one thousand eight hundred and fifty- four and twenty thousand pounds to be paid to the City Commissioners in aid of the City Funds in accordance with a Resolution of the said Council passed on the ninth day of November one thousand eight hundred and fifty-four.
22. The Treasurer of the said Colony shall issue and pay the said several sums to such persons for the purposes hereinbefore men­ tioned upon such days and in such proportions as the Governor for the time being by any warrant or order in writing to be signed by him shall from time to time order and direct and the payments so to be made shall be charged upon and payable out of the Revenues of the said Colony.

23. The said Treasurer shall in his Accounts from time to time be allowed credit for any sum or sums of money paid by him in pursu­ ance of such warrant or order in writing as aforesaid and the receipt or receipts of the respective persons to whom the same shall be so paid shall be a full and valid discharge to the said Treasurer in passing his said Accounts for any such sum or sums as shall be therein mentioned and he shall and do receive credit for the same accordingly.
