An Ordinance to amend the Apprenticeship Ordinance 1936

Short title

1.  This Ordinance may be cited as the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Ordinance 1988.1

Principal Ordinance

2.  In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Apprenticeship Ordinance 1936.2

Attendance at prescribed course

3.  Section 22 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting subsection (3) and substituting the following subsections:

“(3)  Where, at the direction of the Board, an apprentice has attended a prescribed course conducted outside the Territory, the apprentice is entitled to be paid by the Commonwealth—

(a)the cost of travelling to and from the place at which the prescribed course was conducted; and

(b)an allowance at the prescribed rate in respect of any period during which he or she was necessarily absent from his or her normal place of living.

“(4)  An amount may be advanced to an apprentice on account of his or her anticipated entitlements under subsection (3).”.
