An Act to Amend "The Apprentices and Minors Act THE ApPRENTICES of 1929" in certain particulars. AND MINORS ACT [ASSENTED TO 12TH DECEMBER, 1934.] AMENDMENT B· ACT OF 1934. E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice.and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queenslandin Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- Short title 1. This Act may be cited as " The Apprentices and : ~ ~ struction. Minors Act Amendment Act of 1934," and shall be read as one with *" The Apprentices and )}finors Act of 1929," herein referred to as the Principal Act. Collective The Principal Act and this Act may collectively be title. cited as "The Apprentices and lYlinors Acts, 1929 to 1934." Amendrnents of the Principal Act. Amendment 2. Section twenty-two of the Principal Act is ~ me~ ~ ment amended by adding to subsection six thereof the 0 s. . following paragraph, namely :-- ,. Upon conviction of any person for a breach of this subsection the court shall, in addition to any other penalty, order the offender to repay any such consideration, premium, gift, forbearance, or allowance so accepted by him. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any Act contained, a prosecution for an offence against this subsection may be instituted within one year after the offence is committed or within six months after the discovery of the offence by an industrial inspector, whichever is the later period." 4. Section thirty-nine of the Principal Act is Amendment amended by deleting the words "one week," in the of s. 39. proviso to subsection one, and by inserting the words " two weeks " in lieu thereof. 6. Section forty-two of the Principal Act is repealed Repeal of and the following new section forty-two is inserted in ant2new lieu thereof, namely:- s. . " [42.] An apprentice shall be paid the same Travelling allowances as are from time to time paid by the employer ~ lowances, to journeymen in the same trade for travelling time, c. fares, meal money, distant jobs, work performed under extraordinary conditions, dirt money, and other matters; or where such allowances are proportionate to the rates of pay received by journeymen, the apprentice shall be paid only such proportion thereof as the rates of pay of the apprentice bear to such journeyman's minimum rates of pay."

Amendment 8. Section forty-five of the Principal Act is of s. 45. amended by adding to paragraph (b) thereof, the following words, namely:- " A copy of such record may be obtained by an association of employers functioning in the trade or industry concerned, or by the relevant union or unions of employees." Amendment 9. In section forty-six of the Principal Act the of s. 46. words" junior journeymen" are repealed. Amendmont 10. Section forty-seven of the Principal Act is of s. 47. amended as follows:- (a) The words "young journeyman" or "young journeymen," wherever such words occur therein, are repealed. (b) The following paragraph is added to the said section :- " (g) Institute proceedings under this Act for a penalty." (c) The following new subsection is added to the said section (which now forms subsection one of section forty-seven), as follows:- " (2.) It shall be the duty of the industrial inspectors to see that the provisions of this Act and regulations thereunder are duly observed. An industrial inspector shall report to the Chairman of the Apprenticeship Executive all breaches of this Act or of any regulation which have come to his knowledge." Amendment 11. In section forty-eight of the Principal Act the of s. 48. words" young journeymen," wherever such words occur in paragraphs (c) to (d) inclusive, are repealed.

In paragraph (e) of the said section the words" or in which young journeymen are employed" are repealed, and in paragraphs (j) and (g) the words" or employment as young journeymen" are, respectively, repealed. 12. In section fifty-two of the Principal Act the Amendment words" young journeyman," occurring in paragraph (d) of s. 52. of subsection one, and the words "young journeymen," occurring in paragraph (f) of subsection one, are repealed. 13. Section fifty-three of the Principal Act is Amendment amended, as follows :_ of s. 53. The words" young journeyman," where those words twice occur therein, are repealed. 14.
