FAIR WORK COMMISSION

STATEMENT

Fair Work Act 2009

s.285—Annual wage reviews to be conducted

Annual Wage Review 2015–16
(C2016/1)

JUSTICE ROSS, PRESIDENT

MELBOURNE, 30 SEPTEMBER 2015

TIMETABLE

[1] On 17 September 2015, the Fair Work Commission (the Commission) issued a Statement providing a draft timetable for comment for the Annual Wage Review 2015–16. 1

[2] The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) made a submission requesting that the closing date for lodging submissions for the Annual Wage Review 2015–16 be varied from 24 March 2016 to 31 March 2016. The request was made on the basis that 24 March 2016 coincides with the last day of hearings for the casual and part-time common issues as part of the 4 yearly review of modern awards. 2

[3] The Commission has considered the NFF’s submission, the proximity of the Easter break, and the effect the later closing date for lodgement of submissions would have on the statutory timeframes to which the Annual Wage Review 2015–16 must be conducted.

[4] The closing date for the lodging of submissions for the Annual Wage Review 2015–16 will now be 30 March 2016.

[5] The timetable, as set out in Attachment A, is confirmed. The timetable will now be published on the Commission’s website. 3

CaseChat Overview and Summary

The Fair Work Commission issued a statement on 17 September 2015 to provide a draft timetable for the Annual Wage Review 2015-16. The National Farmers' Federation (NFF) submitted a request to the Commission to vary the closing date for lodging submissions for the Annual Wage Review 2015-16 from 24 March 2016 to 31 March 2016. The NFF's request was based on the fact that 24 March 2016 coincided with the last day of hearings for the casual and part-time common issues as part of the 4 yearly review of modern awards.

The Commission considered the NFF's submission, the proximity of the Easter break, and the effect the later closing date for lodgement of submissions would have on the statutory timeframes to which the Annual Wage Review 2015-16 must be conducted. The Commission concluded that the closing date for the lodging of submissions for the Annual Wage Review 2015-16 would now be 30 March 2016.

The Commission confirmed the timetable, as set out in Attachment A, and will publish it on the Commission's website. The final timetable for the Annual Wage Review 2015-16 is from January to June 2016, with the closing date for lodging submissions for the Annual Wage Review 2015-16 being 30 March 2016. The final consultations in Melbourne and Sydney will be held on 17 and 18 May 2016.
