STATEMENT

Fair Work Act 2009
s.285—Annual wage reviews to be conducted

Annual Wage Review 2010-11
(C2011/1)

JUSTICE GIUDICE, PRESIDENT

MELBOURNE, 1 OCTOBER 2010

RESEARCH PROGRAM

[1] In its decision in the Annual Wage Review 2009-10, the Minimum Wage Panel (the Panel) referred to the establishment of a research program. 1 The decision included this passage:

[429] We intend to give consideration to a research program as soon as practicable. We invite interested parties to lodge proposals for research by 31 July 2010. The President will convene a public conference with the Panel to discuss the proposals. Thereafter we shall decide on a research program. The program will not necessarily be limited to the proposals put forward.”

[2] A number of research proposals were filed. A public conference took place with the Panel on 23 August 2010. Following the conference a draft research agenda was made available and further comment was sought by 14 September 2010. The research proposals, the draft research program and all of the comments are available on the Fair Work Australia website at in the Research folder on the Annual Wage Review 2010-11 page.

[3] The Panel has decided that the draft research program should be proceeded with. Some refinement of the scope of the areas of research identified in the draft will be required. That process, and the steps necessary to implement the program, will be the responsibility of the Director of the Minimum Wages Research Branch, Ms Miranda Pointon. Consistent with past practice, Ms Pointon will consult interested parties during the process.
