Animal Welfare Amendment Regulations 1997

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Animal Welfare Act 1993 .16 December 1997

1Short titleThese regulations may be cited as the Animal Welfare Amendment Regulations 1997 . 2CommencementThese regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette. 3Principal RegulationsIn these regulations, the Animal Welfare Regulations 1993 are referred to as the Principal Regulations. 4Regulation 4A insertedAfter regulation 4 of the Principal Regulations , the following regulation is inserted: 4APrescribed act For the purpose of section 8(2)(k) of the Act, the strangling of an animal with a device or by any other means is a prescribed act. 5Schedule 1 amended (Control of prescribed animals with prescribed substances)Schedule 1 to the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting after item (w) the following item:

(x) All mammals

Alphachloralose

Displayed and numbered in accordance with the Rules Publication Act 1953.

These regulations are administered in the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation) These regulations amend the

(a) by prescribing as an offence the act of strangling an animal with a device or by any other means; (b) by prescribing Alphachloralose as a substance that may be used to controll all mammals.
