ANIMAL RESEARCH AMENDMENT ACT 1997 NO 25—
PROCLAMATION
(L.S.) GORDON SAMUELS, Governor.
I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Animal Research Amendment Act 1997, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 1 December 1997 as the day on which Schedule 1 [1], [14], [26], [27], [29], [32], [35]–[37], [39]–[46], [48] and [50]–[52] to that Act commence.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Proclamation is to commence the provisions of the Animal Research Amendment Act 1997 dealing with the following:
| (a) | the objects of the Animal Research Act 1989 (the 1989 Act), |
| (b) | the extension of the period of accreditation of accredited research establishments, |
| (c) | the imposition of a 28-day time limit on lodgment of appeals to the District Court against certain decisions of the Director-General of the Department of Agriculture under the 1989 Act, |
| (d) | the increase i n penalties for offences under the 1989 Act, |
| (e) | the onus of proof for offences involving the unauthorised supply of animals in connection with animal research, |
| ( f ) | the powers of inspectors under the 1989 Act, |
| (g) | the appointment of a Deputy Chairperson of the Animal Research Review Panel and consequential amendments. |
