Regulations under the Nurses Registration Ordinance 1933-1971.*

, make the following Regulations under the Nurses Registration Ordinance
I 1933-1971.

A M E N D M E N T S OF THE N U R S I N G R E G U L A T i o N s t

1. After regulation 1 o f the Nursing Regulations, the following regulation

is inserted:—

" 1A. In these Regulations, ' the Ordinance' means the Nurses Registration
Ordinance 1933-1971.".

2.   Regulation 7 of the Nursing Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting the words " general training school for nurses" and inserting in their stead the words " training school for general nurses "; and
(b)

by omitting paragraph (c) and inserting in its stead the following " ( c ) The hospital conducts, for persons who have the higher

educational qualifications referred to in regulation 11A o f these Regulations, a two-year course, and conducts, for persons who have the educational qualifications referred to in paragraph (b) o f sub-regulation (3 . ) o f regulation 12 o f these Regulations a three-year course, o f training in the' theory and practice o f nursing; ".

3 . After regulation 11 of the Nursing Regulations the following regulation

is inserted:—

" 11A. For the purposes of paragraph (a) o f sub-section (1 . ) o f section 22

of the Ordinance, the prescribed higher educational qualifications are—

(a) a pass at an examination referred to in the first column of the following table held in a particular year o r in two successive years in not less than four subjects at a level specified in the second column

o f that table opposite to that examination; o r

(b)

a pass at an examination held in a country other than Australia in a particular year or in two successive years in not less than four subjects, being an examination that is of a standard equivalent to the standard of any one of the examinations specified in the following table.

4.   Regulation 12 of the Nursing Regulations is amended—

(a)

by omitting paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in " (c ) the appropriate educational qualifications for the course of

training for admission to which she has applied;"; and

(b) by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation:—

" ( 3 . ) For the purposes of paragraph (c ) of sub-regulation (1.) of this regulation, the appropriate educational qualifications for the course of training to which an applicant has applied for admission are—

(a) if the applicant has applied for admission to a two-year course of training conducted by the hospital—the higher educational qualifications specified in the last preceding regulation: or
(b) if the applicant has applied for admission to the three-year course of training conducted by the hospital—

(i) a pass in not less than four subjects at an examina­

tion (other than an examination referred to in the table in the last preceding regulation) held in a particular year or in two successive years by a public examining authority in a State or Territory of the Commonwealth for students who are taught at the secondary level of education; or

(ii)   educational qualifications that are at least of a standard equivalent to the standard obtained by a person who has the qualifications referred to in the last preceding sub-paragraph.".

5. Regulation 16 of the Nursing Regulations is amended by omitting the

word " course " and inserting in its stead the word " courses ".
