I , Interior, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Education Ordinance 1937-1947, hereby make the following Kegulations. Dated this first day of September, 1948.

A M E N D M E N T S OF T H E E D U C A T I O N R E G U L A T I O N S . 1.— (1.) Kegulation 27 of the Education Kegulations is amended— candidates
eligible.
(a) by omitting sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—
" (1.) A boy or girl shall not be eligible to obtain or to hold a bursary if the total income of the parents or guardians during the year ended on the thirtieth day of June preceding the date of the application, or of any subse- quent thirtieth day of June, after deduction is made of any amount received by way of a pension payable under the Australian Soldiers Repatriation Act 1920-1947, of any overtime within the terms and conditions of service or employment of the parents or guardians witli their usual employer, and of any amount necessarily expended in the treatment or .support of any invalid wholly or partially dependent on such parents or guardians, exceeds the amount specified in the undermentioned cases, respectively, where the number of members in a family is—

(6) for the fourth and fifth year's courses in the case of a bursary under regulation 30, and in the case of a 'bursary awarded under regulation 40 of these Regulations—

. . 770 For the purposes of this sub-regulation, there shall be in-
cluded in determining the number of members in a family ^ ^ ^ any pareirl or guardian and any relative of the parent "r^fr the guardian ordinarily residing with, and wholly main- tained by him or her, as the case may be, but there shall not be included any child or relative earning Twenty-six shillings or more per week, or any invalid in respect of whom any deduction has been made from the income in accordance with the provisions of this sub-regulation."; and
(b) by omitting from sub-regulation ( 1 B . ) the word " t e n " and
inserting in its stead the word " eight ".
(2.) This regulation shall be deemed to have come into operation on the eighth day of October, 1947.
| Nature of | 2.— (1.) Regulation 31 of the Education Regulations is amended by " (1.) Each bursary shall comprise a grant of £60 for the first year's course, £60 for the second, £60 for the third, £75 for the fourth and £75 for the fifth year's course, to holders who may have to live away from home in order to attend the school they have selected, or a grant of £18 for the first year's course, £18 for the second, £18 for the third, £30 for the fourth, and £36 for the fifth year's course, to holders who can travel to and from school and home daily. |
