Amendment of Statement of Principles

concerning

SICKLE-CELL DISEASE

subsection 196B(2)

The Repatriation Medical Authority amends, under subsection 196B(2) of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (the Act), Instrument No.109 of 1995 (Statement of Principles concerning sickle-cell disease) by:

1.         omitting from the heading of the Instrument the words and numbers, “ICD CODE: 282.6”, and inserting in its place, “ICD CODES: 282.5, 282.6”;

2.         omitting the definition of “sickle-cell disease” in paragraph 4, and inserting in its place the following definition:

“'sickle-cell disease' (including sickle-cell anaemia and sickle-cell trait) means an hereditary haematological condition, attracting ICD code 282.5 or 282.6, whereby, on deoxygenation, red blood cells containing the haemoglobin Hb S change from bi-concave disk shaped cells to crescent or "sickle" shaped cells.”;

3. The amendments made by this instrument apply to all matters to which Instrument No.109 of 1995 and section 120A of the Act apply.
