Amendment of Statement of Principles

concerning

EFFECTS OF LIGHTNING

Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986
subsection 196B(3)

The Repatriation Medical Authority amends, under subsection 196B(3) of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (the Act), Instrument No.152 of 1995 (Statement of Principles concerning effects of lightning) by:

1.         omitting the definition of “effects of lightning” in paragraph 4, and inserting in its place the following definition:

“'effects of lightning' means the death or bodily harm sustained by a person when struck by lightning, excluding external burn due to lightning, attracting ICD code 994.0;”

Note:      External burn due to lightning is included in Instrument No.38 of 1994 (Statements of Principles concerning external burns) and Instrument No.196 of 1995 (Amendment to Statements of Principles concerning external burn)

2. The amendments made by this instrument apply to all matters to which Instrument No.152 of 1995 and section 120B of the Act apply.
