Amendment of Statement of Principles

concerning

ACUTE SINUSITIS

The Repatriation Medical Authority amends, under subsection 196B(3) of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (the Act), Instrument No.210 of 1995 (Statement of Principles concerning acute sinusitis) by:

1.         inserting immediately after paragraph (e) of clause 1, the following:

“(ea)    suffering from sinus barotrauma immediately before the clinical onset of acute sinusitis; or”

2.         inserting after the definition of “immuno-compromised state” in paragraph 4 the following definition:

'sinus barotrauma' (also known as aerosinusitis or barosinusitis) means fluid accumulation and inflammation of the mucosa of one or more paranasal sinuses due to an inability to equilibrate the difference in pressure between the surrounding atmosphere and the air within the sinus cavity, causing clinical symptoms of sinus pain, sinus haemorrhage or x-ray changes to the sinus cavity, attracting ICD code 993.1;”.

The amendments made by this instrument apply to all matters to which Instrument No.210 of 1995 and section 120B of the Act apply.
