Ambulance Service Regulations 2001

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Ambulance Service Act 1982 .17 December 2001

PART 1Preliminary1Short titleThese regulations may be cited as the Ambulance Service Regulations 2001 . 2CommencementThese regulations take effect on 1 January 2002. 3InterpretationIn these regulations – Act means the Ambulance Service Act 1982 ; member means a participant in the Superannuation Scheme who, immediately before the commencement of the Ambulance Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 1974 , was a member as defined by the Ambulance Regulations 1964 . PART 2Provident fund4Provident Fund (1)  The Provident Fund continued by regulation 5 of the Ambulance Amendment Regulations 1976 continues to have effect. (2)  The Director is to cause the money constituting the Provident Fund to be – (a) deposited in an authorised deposit-taking institution account; or (b) invested as the Director considers appropriate. (3)  The Director is to keep any funds deposited or invested under subregulation (2) separate from any other funds. (4)  The Director may make payments out of the Provident Fund for the following purposes: (a) augmenting the benefits payable to a member on his or her retirement; (b) augmenting the benefits payable to a member whose service with the Director is terminated due to sickness, accident or retrenchment; (c) providing assistance to a member in the case of need, sickness or hardship; (d) providing assistance to the dependants of a member in the case of need, sickness or hardship; (e) providing part payment or full payment of contributions payable under the Superannuation Scheme; (f) providing payment of any expenses in connection with the establishment or administration of the Superannuation Scheme; (g) providing payment in part or full of payments due to a member for long service leave. PART 3Miscellaneous5Payment to volunteersThe Director, with the approval of the Minister, may pay to any person in respect of voluntary services rendered by that person to the Director any amount the Director considers reasonable in a manner the Director considers appropriate. 6Reimbursing honorary ambulance officersThe Director, on the recommendation of the regional ambulance superintendent, may reimburse an honorary ambulance officer who has incurred out-of-pocket expenses whilst providing ambulance services any amount the Director considers appropriate.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation) These regulations –

(a) provide for the management of the Provident Fund; and (b) provide for payment to volunteers and reimbursement to honorary ambulance officers.
