of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under
the

‘designated airport’ means an airport specified in a notice under regulation 309;
‘protective service officer’ means a protective service officer, and a special protective service officer, within the meaning of theAustralian Protective Service Act 1987 ;”.

“309. The Secretary may, by notice

“311. (1) The Secretary may, in writing, appoint an officer of the Department to be an authorised officer for the purposes of this division.
“(2) The Secretary must issue to an authorised officer an identity card that:
(a) shows a recent photograph of the person; and
(b) states that the holder of the card is an authorised officer for the purposes of this Division.
“311a. A person who stops being an authorised officer must return his or her identity card to the Secretary.
Penalty: $100.
“311b. An authorised officer is not entitled to exercise powers under this Division in relation to a person unless the authorised officer has first produced his or her identity card for inspection by the person.
“311c. (1) An authorised officer may enter, and remain in, any part of a designated airport for the purposes of ensuring that aviation is safeguarded against unlawful interference.
“(2) An authorised officer who enters part of a designated airport may:
(a) inspect buildings and equipment; and
(b) observe operating procedures in relation to aircraft operations carried out at the airport; and
(c) observe measures taken by operators of aircraft or occupiers of all or part of the airport;
for the purposes of ensuring that aviation is safeguarded against unlawful interference.
