REGULATIONS UNDER THE AIR FORCE ACT 1923.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Air Force Act 1923.

Amendments of the Air Force Regulations. 

Appointment on probation.

1.—(1.) Regulation 54b of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting from paragraph 3 of the proviso to sub-regulation (2.) the words “storekeeping and stores accounting subjects of the promotion examination for the rank of flying officer” and inserting in their stead the words “initial course approved by the Air Board for officers of the equipment branch”.

(2.) This regulation shall be deemed to have come into operation on the twenty-second day of December, 1938.

2. After regulation 65a of the Air Force Regulations the following regulation is inserted:—

Promotion of officer of medical branch.

“65b. Notwithstanding anything contained in these Regulations, a flying officer of the medical branch may be promoted to the rank of flight lieutenant after one year’s service in the rank of flying officer.”.

3. After regulation 153 of the Air Force: Regulations the following regulations are inserted:—

Religious and political meetings.

“154.—(1.) Except as provided in this regulation—

(a) a member shall not—

(i) institute in any air-force premises; or

(ii) when in uniform attend; or

(b)a band of the Air Force shall not be permitted to play at,

any meeting, demonstration or procession held for a religious or political purpose.

(2.) Nothing in this regulation shall apply to the institution of, or attendance at, or to a band playing at—

(a)a religious or funeral service; or

(b)a religious charity gathering, attendance at which is authorized by proper air-force authority.

(3.) Any member who contravenes any provision of this regulation shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable to penalties as prescribed by regulation 304 of these Regulations.

Other political activities.

154a.—(1.) A member of the Permanent Air Force shall not take any active part in the affairs of any political or municipal organization or party, either by speaking in public or publishing or distributing literature in furtherance of the purposes of any such organization or party, or in any other manner.

(2.) A member of the Citizen Air Force shall not use his air-force rank when taking part in any activity of a political nature or in connexion with any municipal or other local government council or corporation:

Provided that this sub-regulation shall not apply (in connexion with his membership or candidature) to any member of or duly nominated candidate for the Parliament of the Commonwealth or of a State, or any municipal or other local government council or corporation.

(3.)Any member who contravenes any Prevision of this regulation shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable to penalties as prescribed by regulation 364 of these Regulations.”.

Private conveyance—Use of, instead of public conveyance.

4. Regulation 607 of the Air Force Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (b)of sub-regulation (1.) the figure and words “3d per mile” and inserting in their stead the figure and words “2d per mile”; and

(b)by omitting from that paragraph the figures and words “2½d per mile” and inserting in their stead the figures and words “l½d. per mile”.
