REGULATIONS UNDER THE AIR FORCE ACT 1923-1939.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL, in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby making the following Regulations under the Air Force Act 1923-1939.

Amendments of the Air Force Regulations. 

Ranks.

1. Regulation 101 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting the words and figures—

Warrant Officer, Class I.—Sergeant-Major, 1st Class.

Warrant Officer, Class II.—Sergeant-Major, 2nd Class."

and inserting in their stead the words—

Warrant Officer

Warrant Officer.”.

Bandmasters.

2.Regulation 119 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the word and figure “, class I.”.

Classification of members of Reserve.

3. Regulation 454 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (5.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(5.) Officers of Class D of the Reserve shall be grouped in accordance with their qualifications as follows:—

(a) Class D1 shall consist of qualified medical and dental officers who have previously held commissions as such in the Active Force or the Royal Air Force and are selected by the Air Board for commissions in the Reserve.

(b)Class D2 shall consist of persons who, being registered under a law of a State or Territory governing the registration of medical or dental practitioners, are selected by the Air Board for commissions in the Reserve.”.

4. Regulation 535 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting the words “sergeant major” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “warrant officer”.

Rates of pay of airmen of the Permanent Air Force.

5.—(1.) Regulation 553 of the Air Force Regulations is repealed and the following regulation is inserted in its stead:—

“553.—(1.) The daily rate of pay of an airman of the Permanent Air Force employed in Group I. (Technical) in the mustering of airman pilot, air observer, blacksmith, carpenter (boat-builder), carpenter (motor-body builder), carpenter (pattern-maker), carpenter (propeller-maker), carpenter (rigger), coppersmith, draughtsman, electrical fitter, fitter (armourer), fitter (driver, motor transport), fitter (general), fitter (grade I.), fitter (grade II. (A)), fitter (grade II. (E)), fitter (machinist), fitter (motor boat), instrument maker, plumber, warrant officer engineer, turner, welder, wireless and electrical mechanic; or wood machinist shall be that set out in the appropriate column of the following Table opposite to the rank which he holds:—

(Technical) in the mustering of acetylene welder, armourer, carpenter (general), electrician, fabric worker, flight mechanic, flight mechanic (primary), flight rigger, flight rigger (primary), instrument repairer, motor trimmer, painter, photographer or wireless operator (not mechanic) shall be that set out in the appropriate column of the following Table opposite to the rank which he holds:—

Provided that the daily rate of pay of an airman of the Permanent Air Force employed in Group V. (Non-technical) in the mustering of warrant officer (disciplinary) shall be as follows:—

(2.) Notwithstanding anything contained in this regulation, where, immediately prior to the date of commencement of this regulation, an airman was employed in Group I. (Technical), in the mustering of electrician, fitter (aero engine), fitter (grade II.), flight fitter, flight rigger, metal rigger or wireless operator mechanic, his employment in that mustering may be continued until he is re-mustered to a mustering provided by this regulation, and he shall be paid the daily rate of pay applicable to an airman employed in Group I. (Technical) under this regulation until he is so re-mustered.

6. Regulation 578 of the Air Force Regulations is repealed and the following regulation is inserted in its stead:—

Rates of travelling allowances.

“578.—(1.) Travelling allowance at the rates specified in the following Table may, except as otherwise provided in these Regulations, be paid to a member in respect of the time during which he is absent on duty from his permanent station, involving absence from his usual place of residence:—

(a)Such rate as is approved by the Minister, having regard to the expensed necessarily incurred.

 

(2.) Forthe purposes of this regulation “married member” includes an unmarried or divorced member or a widower who is maintaining a home or supporting dependent relatives in circumstances which, in the opinion of the Air Board, justify his inclusion.”.

Where both quarters and rations are available.

7. Regulation 591 of the Air Force Regulations is amended—

(a)by omitting the words and figure “or sergeant major Class I.,” and inserting in their stead the words “or a warrant officer”; and

(b)by omitting the words “a sergeant major” and inserting in their stead the words “a warrant officer”.

Class of accommodation.

8. Regulation 599 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting from the Table in sub-regulation (1.) the words and figures “, Class I. or II.”.

Camp or field allowance.

9. Regulation 642 of the Air Force Regulations is amended—

(a)by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words and figure “or sergeant-major, Class I.,” and inserting in their stead the words “or a warrant officer”; and

(b)by omitting from the Table in that sub-regulation the words and figure “Sergeant-major, Class I.” and inserting in their stead the words “Warrant officer”.

Allowance to members of sergeants’ mess.

10. Regulation 643 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting the word “sergeant-major” and inserting in its stead the words “warrant officer”.
