Agents (Amendment) Ordinance 1984

An Ordinance to amend the Agents Ordinance 1968

Short title

1.  This Ordinance may be cited as the Agents (Amendment) Ordinance 1984.¹

Commencement

2.  This Ordinance shall come into operation on such date as is fixed by the Minister of State for Territories and Local Government by notice in the Gazette.

Principal Ordinance

3.  In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Agents Ordinance 1968.²

Interpretation

4.  Section 5 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—

(a)by inserting after the definition of “applicant” in sub-section (1) the following definition:

“ ‘Department’ means the Department of State of the Commonwealth            that is administered by the Minister for the time being      administering this Ordinance;”; and

(b)by adding at the end thereof the following sub-section:

“(3)  A reference in a provision of this Ordinance to a prescribed fee shall be read as a reference to the fee determined under section 120A for the purposes of that provision.”.

Revocation of licences

5.  Section 77 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting from paragraph (1) (g) “, within the time specified in the regulations,” and substituting “on or before the anniversary of the date on which the certificate of registration or the licence was issued”.

6.  After section 120 of the Principal Ordinance the following section is inserted:

Power of Minister to determine fees

“120A.  The Minister may, by notice in writing published in the Gazette, determine fees for the purposes of this Ordinance.”.

Regulations

7.  Section 122 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting all the words after “particular” and substituting “prescribing penalties not exceeding $100 for offences against the regulations.”.
