HEREAS an Ordinance was passed by the Governor of the

Province of South Australia, with the advice and consent. of the Legislative Council thereof, bearing date the twenty-fourth day of August, 1849, No. 11, " To constitute a Municipal Corpo- ration for the City of Adelaide," and it was by such Ordinance provided that it should commence and take effect from and after a day to be for that purpose appointed by the Governor by Procla- mation pblished in the 8outh A u s h l i a n Government Gazette :

And whereas by virtue of a Proclamation duly issued by the Go-

vernor, and published in the South Australian Government Gazette,

the said Ordinance To constitute a Municipal Corporation for

the City of Adelaide," hath commenced and taken effect: And

whereas by virtue of the powers vested in him bv the 122nd

clause of the said Ordinance, 'L To constitute a ~ u h c i ~ a l Corpo- ration for the City of Adelaide," the Governor has, by warrant under his hand and seal, duly notified in the South Australian

Government Gazette, and appointed certain persons to perform

the acts required by the said Ordinance to be done by the Mayor and other officers or persons until the election or appointment of such Mayor and other officers or persons under the provisions of the said Ordinance: And whereas it is expedient that the firat elections

said Ordinance should be postponed:

Be it therefore Enacted, by His Excelleucy the Governor of South Australia, with the advice and cousent of the Legislative Council

thereof,

That notwithstanding the commencement a n d taking efkt

of the said Ordinance '' To corlstitute a Municipal Corporation for the City of Adelaide," the elections or appointnients of the Mayor, Aldermen, Councillors, and other officers and persons urdcr the said Ordinance shall be, and the same are hereby postponed for the period of six months froru and after the reapcctivc days or times when such elections or appointments respectively are in, and by the said Ordinance directed to be held or made; and that the h s t election of Councillors and Aldermen under the said Ordinance shall be held on the first day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two; the f i~s t election of Mayor, under the said Ordiname, sl-rall be held on the ninth day of the same munth of Junc; and the fir.st election of Assessors and -4uditors, under the said Ordinance, shall be held on the first day of October next following after such first electiou of Conncillor~ and Aldermen as aforesaid; and that all the provisions in the said hereinbefore recited Ordinance, relating to and concerning the elec- tions thereby directed to be held, s l d l be applicable, and shall apply to the elections by this present Ordinance, directed to be

held so far as the same ~rovisions

are cousistent herewith.

2. Provided always, and be it Enacted, That all necessary expen- ses incurred, or to be incurred, in carrying into effect the provisions of the said recited Ordinance, and this Ordinance, after audit and approval by the City Commissioners, shall be defrayed by them out of any funds at their disposal.
