AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

International Aero Engines AG V2500 Series

AD/V2500/8 High Pressure Turbine Disks 12/2011

Applicability:

International Aero Engines AG model V2500-A1.

Requirement:

Unless already accomplished, perform the initial ultrasonic inspection of HPT stage 1 and 2 disks specified in FAA AD 99-25-03.

Perform the repetitive ultrasonic inspections of HPT stage 1 and 2 disks specified in FAA AD 99-25-03.

Note:  IAE Service Bulletin No. V2500-ENG-72-0344 refers.

Compliance:

If the initial ultrasonic inspection has not been performed - before first flight after
1 July 2011.

Perform repetitive inspections on the occasions specified in FAA AD 99-25-03.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 24 June 2011.

Background:

FAA AD 99-25-03 was issued to prevent HPT disk fracture which could result in an uncontained engine failure and damage to the aeroplane.
