AD/V2500/7 In-flight Shutdown (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

International Aero Engines AG V2500 Series

AD/V2500/7 In-flight Shutdown 12/2011

Applicability:

International Aero Engines AG V2527-A5 and V2533-A5 with serial numbers V10079 and below, V2500-A1 with any serial number, and other models of turbofan engine listed in the requirement document; unless terminating action prescribed in the requirement document has been accomplished.

Requirement:

After an in-flight shutdown, accomplish the actions prescribed in FAA AD 99-13-01, Amendment 39-11194.

Note:  IAE All Operators Wire No. 1046, Issue 2 dated May 21, 1999 or later issue, refers.

Compliance:

After an in-flight shutdown, as prescribed in the requirement document.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 24 June 2011.

Background:

The FAA issued AD 99-13-01 to prevent failure of HPT hardware due to ignition of trapped oil.  This could result in an uncontained engine failure and damage to the aeroplane.
