AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
International Aero Engines AG V2500 series
| AD/V2500/2 | Fuel Filter Cover | 9/2005 |
Applicability: | International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500-A1 and V2500-A5 series engines. Note 1: These engines are installed in, but not limited to, Airbus A319, A320 and A321 series aircraft. |
Requirement: | 1. Inspect the area of the fuel filter cover of the Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) in accordance with Service Bulletin (SB) IAE 79-0085 dated 19 June 2002, and for non modified V2500-A5 engines in accordance with SB IAE 79-0086 dated 8 August 2002. (a) If fuel leakage is observed, comply with instructions of All Operator Wire (AOW) 1048. 2. For V2500-A1 engines modify the FCOC in accordance with Service Bulletin IAE 79-0085, or later DGAC approved revision. 3. For V2500-A5 engines having a Serial Number lower than V11375, modify the FCOC in accordance with Service Bulletin IAE 79-0086, or later DGAC approved revision. Note 2: At every other opening of the fuel filter cover strictly apply the procedures detailed in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM). Note 3: EASA AD 2005-0012 approval number 2005-3459 dated 15 April 2005 refers. |
Compliance: | 1. Unless previously accomplished, within 500 flight hours after the effective date of this Directive. (a) Before further flight. 2. No later than 31 December 2005 or at the next removal of the FCOC alone or installed on a higher assembly. 3. No later than 31 December 2005 or at the next removal of the FCOC alone or installed on a higher assembly. |
| This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 1 September 2005. |
Background: | Over tightening of the bolts retaining the fuel filter cover on the FCOC has led to heavy fuel loss on two aeroplanes. This Directive requires an inspection of the fuel cover leaks and modification of the FCOC to prevent fuel leakage from the FCOC. |
