AD/THIELERT/3 FADEC Software 6/2005 DM

Applicability:

All TAE125-01 aircraft engines.

Requirement:

Install a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) software update, as applicable to the aircraft type, in accordance with Thielert Aircraft Engines GmbH Service Bulletin TM TAE 125-0004 Revision 4 dated 1 April 2005.

Note 1:  For installation of the software update see the procedures in the Operation and Maintenance Handbook OM 02-01.

Note 2:  LBA AD D-2005-145 (EASA approval 2005-2921) refers.

Note 3:  Accomplishment of the FADEC software update allows the removal of the Aircraft Flight Manual amendment inserted in accordance with AD/DA40/5.

Compliance:

Either within the next 100 hours time in service after the effective date of this Directive or 1 October 2005, whichever occurs first.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 20 April 2005.

Background:

A software error in the FADEC has been determined to cause loss of power incidents after prolonged descent at idle power setting at low outside air temperatures.  The actions specified in this Directive are intended to prevent these incidents which could result in an emergency landing.

AD/DA40/5, which has been issued at the same time as this Directive, requires a temporary amendment to be inserted in the Operating Limitations of the AFM.  This is an interim measure and is to be removed when the software update to the FADEC unit is accomplished.
