Requirement: | 1. Check each main landing gear (MLG) wheel axle batch number in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of EADS Socata Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) SB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph A. If the batch number of the MLG wheel axle is not a batch number specified in the applicability section of this Directive, the aircraft can be released into service. If the batch number of the MLG wheel axle is a batch number specified in the applicability section of this Directive, accomplish ASB SB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph B, “Checking procedure of axle conformity”. If the verification described in ASB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph B (with specific tool Ref. SKT40716-118) reveals the axles are in compliance, the aircraft can be released into service. One Ferry-flight is authorised after verification of the nut tightening in accordance with ASB SB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph C “Checking procedure of nut tightening”, to re-locate to a maintenance repair station equipped with the inspection tool (Ref. SKT40716-118) necessary for accomplishment of ASB SB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph B. If one of the axles is not in compliance following the inspection in accordance with ASB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph B, before further flight, replace the original locking washer with a suitable locking washer part number SKW40716-118 or part number SKW40716-118R and identify the axle with inscription “SB |
| Aircraft on which ASB 70-151-32 R1 paragraph B has been applied at original ASB issue are not affected by this issue of the Directive, except aircraft on which a locking washer part number SKW40716-118 has been installed, of which replacement is required before 31 August 2008. 2. Replace any installed part number SKW40716-118 locking washer with a part number SKW40716-118R locking washer. During this period, special attention should be given during maintenance to the installation of locking washer part number SKW40716-118 or part number SKW40716-118R instead of locking washer part number Z00.N7743811500 for axles not in compliance. Note 1: Replacement of a non-compliant main landing gear wheel axle with a compliant main landing gear wheel axle at next repair or overhaul, is considered terminating action for the requirements of this Directive. Note 2: DGAC Emergency AD UF-2007-015 refers. | |
Compliance: | Before further flight for Requirements 1. Before 31 August 2008 for Requirement 2. |
| This Amendment becomes effective on 24 September 2007. | |
Background: | A report was received of a main landing gear wheel axle nut that had unscrewed on a TBM 850 aircraft. This condition resulted in a loss of braking and could lead to loss of the wheel. Investigation revealed that the incident was due to an axle machining issue which concerned several production batches. Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new DGAC Emergency AD, which adds new MLG wheel axle batch numbers to applicability, and requires replacement of part number SKW40716-118 locking washers. |
