AD/SF340/16 Amdt 1 AC Generator P/No. 31342-001 (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/SF340/16 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

SAAB SF340 Series Aeroplanes

AD/SF340/16 Amdt 1 AC Generator P/No. 31342-001 24/2009

Applicability:

All SAAB SF340A and SF340B aircraft with AC generators P/No. 31342-001 NOT modified to “Mod D” standard.

Requirement:

Remove from service all generators P/No. 31342-001 NOT modified to “Mod D” standard in accordance with SAAB-Scania AB Service Bulletin (SB) SF340-24-016.

The use of later approved revisions of this document is acceptable for compliance with the requirements of this AD.

Note:  Swedish AD 1-033A refers.

Compliance:

Prior to 29 April 2010, unless already accomplished.

This Amendment becomes effective on 25 December 2009.

Background:

The subject generators not modified to “Mod D” status have shown an unacceptable failure rate.

This amendment updates the revision status of the applicable Swedish AD and includes the SAAB 340B in the applicability.

The original issue of this Directive became effective on 10 August 1989.
