AD/Seats/25 Sicma Aero Seats Reading Light Power Supplies (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Requirement:

Replace the installed reading light electrical power supply in accordance with Sicma Aero Seat Service Bulletin 50-25-210 dated 27 June 2005.

Note 2:  DGAC AD F-2005-135 (EASA Approval 2005-6123) refers.

Compliance:

Before 1 May 2006.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 29 September 2005.

Background:

The French Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) has received a report of smoke in the passenger compartment following the overheating of a reading light power supply in a Sicma P/N 5039201-4T seat.

This Directive requires all suspect power supplies to be replaced to prevent further occurrences of smoke and possible fire in the passenger compartment.
