AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Eurocopter SA 315 (Lama) Series Helicopters

AD/SA 315/15 MGB Output Flange 6/2007

Applicability:

Eurocopter SA315B (LAMA) helicopters fitted with MGB P/N 319A.62.00.000.1 through .4.

Requirement:

1.    Measure the play at the location of the assembly through measurement of the angular displacement on the MGB output flange, in accordance with Eurocopter Service Bulletin (SB) No. 05.16 or later approved revision.

2.    If the displacement measured exceeds 1mm the MGB must be removed for repair.

Note:  DGAC AD 80-194-20(B) dated 17 October 1980 refers.

Compliance:

1.    For MGB’s accumulating more than 390 flight hours, within 10 flight hours of operation from the effective date of this AD, thereafter at intervals not to exceed 400 flight hours.

For MGB’s having accumulated less than 390 flight hours at the effective date of this AD, before accumulating 400 flight hours, thereafter at intervals not to exceed 400 flight hours.

2.    Before further flight after the effective date of this AD.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 June 2007.

Background:

The measurement detailed in this AD determines the allowable wear limit within the splines on the MGB.  The actions detailed in this AD are intended to prevent failure of the MGB and the subsequent loss of control of the helicopter.
