AD/REC/2 Amdt 1 – Fairchild Cockpit Voice Recorder – Inspection and Modification 8/2022 (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the commencement date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below repeals Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/REC/2 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001 (1) of CASR and subsection 33 (3) of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct an unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recording Systems

AD/REC/2 Amdt 1 Fairchild Cockpit Voice Recorder - Inspection and Modification 8/2022

Applicability:

Fairchild Industrial Products Cockpit Voice Recorder Model A100 Series, having any of Serial Numbers 4733 to 5260 inclusive.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of Fairchild Industrial Products Alert Service Bulletin No CVR A140, as in force on the commencement date of this AD.

Note:  United States of America Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airworthiness Directive 81-04-06 Amendment 39-4039 is the basis of this AD.

Compliance:

Within 60 days after the commencement date of this AD, unless previously accomplished.

This AD commences on 22 April 2022.

Background:

Thermal insulation assembly PN 9300-A18 was omitted inadvertently from recorders within the serial number range quoted. This insulation must be installed to prevent the possibility of destruction of the recording tape in an aircraft accident involving fire.

Amendment 1 of this AD is issued to remove the Compliance note which referred to a document which is no longer current. There are no changes to the technical requirements of this AD.
