AD/PHZL/83 Propeller Hub Cracks (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Propellers - Variable Pitch - Hartzell

AD/PHZL/83 Propeller Hub Cracks 1/2006

Applicability:

Hartzell Propeller, Inc., Model HD-E6C-3( ) series propellers with propeller hub part number D-5108-1.

Note 1:  These propellers may be installed on but not limited to Fairchild Dornier 328-110 and 328-120 series aeroplanes.

Requirement:

Unless previously accomplished replace propeller hub P/N D-5108-1 with propeller hub P/N D-5108-5.

Note 2:  FAA AD 99-25-05 Amdt 39-11448 refers.

Compliance:

Within 30 days after the effective date of this AD.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 January 2006.

Background:

The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent severe vibration due to cracks in the propeller hub that could result in propeller blade loss, loss of control, and possible damage to the aeroplane.
