AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability:

All Model PC-6 series aircraft.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with Pilatus Aircraft Service Bulletin No. 53-001, dated 16 February 2005.

Note:  FOCA AD HB-2005-080 refers.

Compliance:

At the next 100 hour inspection or 3 calendar months after 14 April 2005, whichever occurs later.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 14 April 2005.

Background:

This Directive is prompted by an occurrence where a PC-6 aircraft had to make an emergency landing outside an airport after the failure of the lower attachment bracket of the horizontal stabiliser.  This type of failure could result in loss of control of the aircraft.
