AD/PC-12/54 Fuselage Overboard Vent Installation (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Pilatus PC-12 Series Aeroplanes

AD/PC-12/54 Fuselage Overboard Vent Installation 3/2009

Applicability:

Model PC-12 and PC-12/45 aircraft, manufacturer serial numbers 101 through 320 inclusive.

Requirement:

Install an overboard vent for the airfoil deice system pressure regulator in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Pilatus PC-12 Service Bulletin No. 30-011 original issue, or later EASA approved revision.

Note:  EASA AS 2009-0007 refers.

Compliance:

Within 3 months after 12 March 2009, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 12 March 2009.

Background:

Reports were received of several occurrences where the Deice Pressure Regulator has vented excess hot air into the forward compartment, damaging the Oxygen Cylinder on/off cable, the Ram-Air Scoop cable, and the Environmental Control System firewall shut-off valve cable.  This Directive requires the installation of a flange and scoop in the aircraft skin to vent hot air from the Deice Pressure Regulator overboard.
