AD/PC-12/50 Powerplant Torque Oil Pressure Pipe (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Pilatus PC-12 Series Aeroplanes

AD/PC-12/50 Powerplant - Torque Oil Pressure Pipe 11/2007

Applicability:

Pilatus PC-12, PC-12/45 and PC-12/47 aircraft, all serial numbers, with oil pipe/hose assemblies Part Number (P/N) 577.11.12.104, 577.11.12.105, 946.37.74.305, 946.37.74.306, 946.37.74.307, 946.37.74.308 or 946.37.74.311 installed.

Requirement:

1.    Perform a configuration check and inspection of the pipe/hose assemblies for abrasive damage (chafing) and distortion in accordance with paragraph 3.B of PILATUS PC-12 Service Bulletin No. 71-007.

2.    If during the configuration check and inspection detailed in Requirement 1 of this AD any oil pipe/hose assemblies with abrasive damage (chafing) are found, replace the affected hose/pipe assemblies in accordance with paragraph 3.B, 3.D and 3.E of PILATUS PC-12 Service Bulletin No. 71-007.

3.    If during the configuration check and inspection detailed in Requirement 1 of this AD, no damage on oil pipe/hose assemblies is found, replace the hose/pipe assemblies as listed in the applicability of this AD, in accordance with paragraph 3.B, 3.C and 3.E of PILATUS PC-12 Service Bulletin No. 71-007.

4.    Do not install any oil pipe/hose assembly with P/N 577.11.12.104, 577.11.12.105, 946.37.74.305, 946.37.74.306, 946.37.74.307, 946.37.74.308 or 946.37.74.311 on any PILATUS PC-12 series aircraft.

Note:  EASA AD 2007-0235 dated 31 August 2007 refers.

Compliance:

1.    Within10 Flight Hours (FH) after the effective date of this AD.

2.    Before further flight after the effective date of this AD.

3.    Within 6 months after the effective date of this AD.

4.    After 14 March 2008.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 25 October 2007.

Background:

This AD is prompted by occurrences where abrasive damage (chafing) has been found on oil pipe assemblies in the area of the torque oil pressure transducer on the engines of some PC-12 aircraft.  Incorrect assembly after maintenance tasks can decrease distances between various pipe/hoses assemblies and adjacent components.  Damaged pipes can cause oil leakages in the area of the engine.

This AD requires an inspection for damage, replacement when damage is found, and eventual replacement of all the affected pipe/hose assemblies.
