AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/PA-25/17 Amdt 4 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Piper PA-25 (Pawnee) Series Aeroplanes

AD/PA-25/17 Amdt 5 Fuselage Structure - Corrosion 7/2006

Applicability:

All models.

Requirement:

1.    Radiographically inspect the following tubes in the fuselage for internal corrosion:

(a)   PA-25 tubes numbers 62, 89, 2 and 129 shown in Piper drawing 61001.

(b)   PA-25-235 and 260 tube numbers 22, 23 and 26 shown in Piper drawing 64001.

Note:  Radiographic technique DCA NDI/R/5 is an approved inspection method.

Compliance:

For para. 1(a) - Within 5 years from date of manufacture and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 6 years.

For para. 1(b) - Within 5 years from date of manufacture or repair.

This Amendment becomes effective on 6 July 2006.

Background:

This directive is intended to detect cracking in some of the main structural elements of the fuselage.

Amendment 5 adds drawings showing the location of the tubes to be inspected to improve clarity.
