AD/PA-23/46 Amdt 1 Exhaust System Inspection and Modification (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/PA-23/46 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | All models Piper PA-23-250 and PA-E23-250 aircraft with serial numbers 27-2505 and up, equipped with non-supercharged engines. |
Requirement: | 1. Visually inspect engine exhaust system and alternate air heat shroud in accordance with FAA AD 72-14-05 (amdt 39-1943). 2. Adjust and align ball joint stack assemblies and supports in accordance with Piper SB No. 319. Note: FAA AD 72-14-05 (amdt 39-1943) paragraph b. refers. |
Compliance: | At each scheduled inspection for issue of a maintenance release following the date of effectivity of this amendment. |

Background: | This AD was originally issued in 1971. It specified once-only inspection and modification of the exhaust system in accordance with Piper SB No. 319 within 100 hours time in service after July 1971. This amendment matches FAA AD 72-14-05, including the FAA requirement for periodic inspection at intervals not to exceed 100 hours. |
