AD/Makila/11 Airworthiness Limitation Items (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | TURBOMECA MAKILA 2A turboshaft engines, all serial numbers. Note 1: These engines are known to be installed on, but not limited to, Eurocopter EC 225 helicopters. |
Requirement: | Review and assess the mandatory life limits and maintenance tasks of the MAKILA 2A Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) at update 08; and Update the approved operator's Maintenance Programme to incorporate all applicable changes to requirements included in the MAKILA 2A ALS at update 08. The use of later approved revisions of this document is acceptable for compliance with the requirements of the AD. Note 2: EASA AD 2009-0017 dated 23 January 2009 refers. |
Compliance: | Within 30 days after the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished. |

Background: | Mandatory component life limits and maintenance tasks are published by TURBOMECA in the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) of the applicable Engine Maintenance Manual and are approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Update 08 of the MAKILA 2A ALS includes new life limits and mandatory maintenance tasks as follows:
