Ad/Learjet 35/42 - Aileron Control Cables (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Gates Learjet 35 and 36 Series Aeroplanes

AD/LEARJET 35/42 Aileron Control Cables 19/2010

Applicability:

Models 35, 35A, 36 and 36A identified in the Requirement document.

Requirement:

If not previously accomplished, make a detailed inspection of aileron control cables
in accordance with Learjet Alert Service Bulletin A35/36-27-42 dated
23 December 2002.

Note:  FAA AD 2005-13-36 Amendment 39-14173 refers.

Compliance:

Before further flight after 31 October 2010.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 September 2010.

Background:

Defective swage of the centre ball on an aileron control cable caused the cable to fail when it underwent a tension check.
