AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

British Aerospace BAe 3100 (Jetstream) Series Aeroplanes

AD/JETSTREAM/107 Nosewheel Steering Selector Valve 20/2010

Applicability:

Jetstream Series 3100 and 3200 aircraft

Requirement:

Overhaul the nosewheel steering selector valve in accordance with the requirements in Jetstream Service Bulletin 32-JA980841 or an equivalent document.

Note:  UK CAA AD 007-10-98 refers.

Compliance:

Initial valve overhaul:  Unless already accomplished, before further flight after
29 October 2010.

Subsequent overhauls:  At intervals not exceeding 10,000 hours time in service after the previous valve overhaul.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 29 October 2010.

Background:

The manufacturer investigated an uncommanded steer off the runway and found a contributory cause was excessive wear in the nosewheel steering selector valve differential.
