British Aerospace BAe 3100 (Jetstream) Series Aeroplanes

AD/JETSTREAM/100 Landing Gear Radius Rod
Cylinder Cracking
7/2005

Applicability:

British Aerospace Models HP 137 Jetstream Mk 1, Jetstream 200, 3100 and 3200 Series Aircraft with radius rod cylinders part numbers 1847/A to 1847/L and 1862/A to 1862/L without strike-off 12.

Requirement:

Perform the inspection of landing gear radius rod cylinders for cracking as per instructions of BAE Systems Ltd Jetstream Series 3100 and 3200 Service Bulletin (SB) 32-JA040945 Original issue or later EASA approved revision.

Note:  UK CAA Airworthiness Directive G-2005-0010 dated 18 April 2005 approved by EASA under approval number 2005-3460 dated 15 April 2005 refers.

Compliance:

From the effective date of this AD, at the thresholds and intervals specified in SB
32-JA040945 Original issue or later EASA approved revision.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 July 2005.

Background:

There have been two reported cases of landing gear radius rod cylinders suffering cracks starting in the retract fluid connection bore.  Such cracks can result in loss of the normal hydraulic system and may lead to a landing gear collapse.  Landing gear collapse is considered as potentially hazardous.

This AD mandates additional inspections considered necessary to address the identified unsafe condition.
