British Aerospace BAe 3100 (Jetstream) Series Aeroplanes

AD/JETSTREAM/100 Amdt 1 Landing Gear Radius
Rod Cylinder Cracking
2/2007

Applicability:

Models HP 137 Jetstream Mk 1, Jetstream Series 200, 3100 and 3200 aircraft with radius rod cylinders part numbers 1847/A to 1847/L and 1862/A to 1862/L.

Requirement:

Inspect in accordance with BAE Systems Service Bulletin 32-JA040945 Revision 1, or later EASA approved revision.

Note:  EASA AD 2006-0343 refers.

Compliance:

At the thresholds and intervals specified in the Requirement document.

This Amendment becomes effective on 15 February 2007.

Background:

There have been two reported cases of landing gear radius rod cylinders suffering cracks starting in the retract fluid connection bore.  Such cracks can result in loss of the normal hydraulic system and may lead to a landing gear collapse.  This AD mandates additional inspections considered necessary to address the identified unsafe condition.

Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new EASA AD, which expands applicability to include all radius rods and revises the associated inspections.
