AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Kawasaki BK 117 Series Helicopters

AD/JBK 117/30 Flight Controls - Fixed Bearing 13/2008

Applicability:

Kawasaki BK117C-2 helicopters.

Requirement:

1.    Conduct an inspection of the bearing installation on the Bellcrank and Guidance Unit in accordance with Kawasaki Service Bulletin No.KSB-117-295 or later JCAB-approved revision.

2.    Repeat the inspection detailed in Requirement 1 of this AD.

3.    If Bellcrank or Guidance Unit with incorrectly installed bearings is detected as a result of inspection detailed in Requirement 1 of 2 of this AD, replace the applicable Bellcrank or Guidance Unit.

Note:  Japan Civil Aviation Bureau AD TCD-7358-2008 dated 24 September 2008 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - Within 50 flight hours after the effective date of this AD or 30 days after the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs first.

For Requirement 2 - At every periodical inspection or every 12-month inspection, whichever occurs first.

For Requirement 3 - Prior to further flight.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 18 December 2008.

Background:

The actions detailed in this AD are intended to prevent impairment of free movement of the flight controls by incorrect by fixed bearings.
