AD/Jabiru/2 Wing Attachment Bolts Life Limit (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct an unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Avtech (Jabiru Aircraft) Series Aeroplanes

AD/JABIRU/2 Wing Attachment Bolts - Life Limit 10/2017

Applicability:

Jabiru Aircraft models UL-C, UL-D, J160-C, LSA 55/2K, LSA 55/2J, Jabiru ST, LSA 55/3J and Jabiru ST3 -  all serial numbers.

Note 1:  Aircraft registered with RA-Aus are not subject to this AD provided Civil Aviation Orders 95.10, 95.32 and 95.55 are complied with.

Requirement:

Replace each AN4 wing attachment bolt (and remove replaced bolt from service) in accordance with Jabiru Aircraft Service Bulletin JSB 037-1 as in force from time to time.

Note 2:  Any repairs or modifications to the aircraft will need to be carried out in accordance with approved data.

Compliance:

1.    Before or upon reaching 2000 hours time-in-service.

2.    For aircraft which have already reached 2000 hours time-in-service, before the next 100-hour or annual maintenance inspection, whichever occurs first.

This AD commences on 22 May 2017.

Background:

Whilst carrying out the 5000 hourly inspection on two Jabiru aircraft it was found that one of the AN 4 wing attachment bolts was broken.  As a result of this defect, Jabiru Aircraft issued JSB 037-1 to place a life limit on AN 4 bolts used in the wing attachment joint.
