Ad/Inst/52 - SVS I and IA Standby Vacuum System (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | Precise Flight Inc. Model SVS I and SVS IA standby vacuum system installed by one of the following FAA approved Supplemental Type Certificates (STC). SA2160NM, SA2161NM, SA2162NM, SA2164NM, SA2167NM, SA2168NM, SA2683NM, SE1779NM, SE1780NM or any Precise Flight Inc. SVS I or SVS IA standby vacuum system (SVS) incorporated by local modification action. |
Requirement: | 1. Incorporate the Standby Vacuum System AFM SUPPLEMENT (AFMS), dated 2. Install placards described in the AFMS in accordance with Standby Vacuum System AFM SUPPLEMENT. 3. Upgrade the Model SVS I or SVS IA SVS to the Model VI SVS, install the appropriate placards, and add the installation report including the instructions for continued airworthiness (ICA) to the maintenance schedule for the aircraft in accordance with Precise Flight, Inc. Installation Report No. 08074, Standby Vacuum System Model VI Upgrade Kit, dated 7 January 2000. 4. Do not install any Model SVS I or SVS IA SVS without also doing the actions required by Requirements 1, 2 and 3 of this Directive. Note 1: Information to Precise flight Inc standby vacuum systems can be obtained from Note 2: FAA AD 2005-11-05 Amdt 39-14107 refers. |
Compliance: | Within 30 days after the effective date of this Directive. Before further flight after incorporating the AFMS in the AFM required by Requirement 1 of this Directive. Within 1 year after the effective date of this Directive. From the effective date of this Directive. |
| This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 27 October 2005. |
Background: | This Directive is the result of several reports of failed shuttle control valves of the SVS and one report of an aeroplane crash with a fatality in which improper use of the SVS was a factor. The actions specified in this Directive are intended to correct problems with the SVS before failure or malfunction during instrument flight rules (IFR) flight that can lead to pilot disorientation and loss of control of the aircraft. |
