AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/GBK 117/5 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Eurocopter BK 117 Series Helicopters

AD/GBK 117/5 Amdt 1 Electrical Bonding and Static Dischargers 9/2009

Applicability:

All MBB BK 117 helicopters with serial numbers from 7001 up to and including 7241.

Requirement:

1.    Install electrostatic dischargers and modify fuel vent outlet ports in accordance with Alert Service Bulletin ASB-MBB-BK 117-90-105.

2.    For serial numbers up to 7215 remove, without replacing, the fuel return lines; and inspect fuel supply tank vent outlet ports; in accordance with Alert Service Bulletin ASB-MBB-BK 117-60-107 and SB-MBB-BK 117-60-108 respectively.

Note 2:  FAA AD 91-06-11 (b), (c) and (d) refer.

Compliance:

If not already accomplished, within 50 hours time in service after the effective date of this amendment.

This Amendment becomes effective on 27 August 2009.

Background:

The original issue of this AD was issued in 1994.  It applied to Kawasaki BK 117 by serial number, and referred to Kawasaki KSB-117-077 and JCAB AD 3432-91.

Amendment 1 is raised to nominate MBB helicopters, the MBB Service Bulletin, and the LBA and FAA Airworthiness Directives.  Amendment 1 also adds Requirement No. 2.
