AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airparts (NZ) Ltd. FU 24 Series Aeroplanes

AD/FU24/67 Vertical Stabiliser 7/2009

Applicability:

All Model FU24 series aircraft, except aircraft fitted with a part number 08-32005-2 vertical stabiliser.

Requirement:

Replace the vertical stabiliser with a part number 08-32005-2 vertical stabiliser (modification PAC/FU/0345) in accordance with the instructions of Pacific Aerospace Ltd Mandatory Service Bulletin No. PACSB/FU/094 Issue 1, or later
NZ CAA approved issue; the FU24-950 Series Maintenance Manual, and PAL Drawing No.242356.

Compliance:

By 30 October 2010.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 2 July 2009.

Background:

The NZ CAA requires installation of an improved vertical stabiliser to prevent possible in-flight failure of the existing vertical stabiliser which could lead to loss of control of the aircraft.
